MRT Breakdown
I REFER to "MRT breakdowns: Readers air their unhappiness" (The New Paper, yesterday).
All these complaints and calls for SMRT's top management to resign are totally uncalled for.
Who causes all the problems in the first place? It is the people who complain and whine.
If not for their demands for more train services, more speed and who knows what else, we may not have had such incidents.
By giving in to these demands, SMRT's maintenance work must have been affected. Do you think it is easy to maintain the rails and cables throughout Singapore?
Please, you complainers should be the ones waking up, not SMRT.
You should be thanking SMRT for its 24 years of service that you have enjoyed.
And above all, you should be thankful that this was just a power cut-off. It was not anything like the train disasters that have happened in China and other countries, which involve loss of life.
You should realise that a lot of people are still alive because of SMRT's safety measures, which you lot seem to consider useless.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for making such a fuss over this incident.
We are making a joke of ourselves in all the countries where there have been far worse rail incidents.
There was also the article "No Luck" (The New Paper, Dec 19).
Surely Mr Tong, an insurance agent, could have explained to his potential clients that he was late because of the MRT breakdown?
