HULU TERENGGANU, Malaysia - The Home Ministry has taken safety measures to protect parties that have become targets of angry Muslims over a film that insulted Prophet Muhammad, including patrolling the US embassy.
Minister Datuk Seri Hisham*muddin Hussein said the ministry understood the outrage by Muslims globally, thus the measures had to be taken.
"We are monitoring the US em-bassy as well as certain parties as part our of security and safety measure," he said after opening the Hulu Terengganu Umno meeting here yesterday.
"Personally, I cannot accept the contents of the film," he said.
On another matter, the Umno vice-president said he would not be deterred by the "spin" on an online news portal regarding a recent statement he made on the "safety" of the Opposition.
Lambasting the portal for its report on Friday, Hishammuddin clarified that his exact words were "I cannot ensure the position of the Opposition in Johor as it is determined by the rakyat.
"I hope the majority of Malaysians can be rational ... politics has its limits ... it must not disrupt the country's stability and harmony," he said.
