OTC was no angel. It was only when he discovered that he was not going to get the establishment support for re-election as president that he started to kick up the reserve issue. As president, he would have all the pomp of the office and not to mention the salary and all his medical treatment paid for and be treated as a VIP in hospital.

My recollection was that it was the other way around. He kept asking inside and got stonewalled until it was clear that PAP government wouldn't want him to be president and keep asking anymore. So he blew it up public. Anyway, he's human and a politcian at that. What'd you expect? An angel?

Incidentally, does any one know whether Goh Keng Swee was given any state honours like PBM.

Geezzz... What PMB? That's small stuff to keep RC and CCC happy. Goh Keng Swee got DUT(1) (Darjah Utama Temasek First Class). In England, that's called Knight's Grand Cross and in Malaysia that's called Datuk Seri.

State funeral for Dr Goh

FORMER Deputy Prime Minister Goh Keng Swee, regarded as the architect of Singapore's economic and financial policies, died early on Friday morning after a long illness. He was 91.

Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, who went to Dr Goh's home on Friday morning, told reporters afterwards that arrangements were being made for a State Funeral to be held next week

Dr Goh's body will initially be at his home for family and friends to pay their respects.

Mr Yeo described Dr Goh as someone 'who has done so much for Singapore and is someone to whom we owe a great debt'.

Dr Goh will be remembered, above all, for his role as the prime architect of Singapore's economic success.

Many of the key milestones in Singapore's journey from Third World backwater to globalised, First-World city can be found in the story of his life, vividly portrayed in the new book Goh Keng Swee: A Portrait by his daughter-in-law Tan Siok Sun.

Ong Teng Cheong went and investigate the CPF account to find out how much money was there in CPF for the sake to answer the queries from the Singaporeans.

And that trigger the nerves of Lee Kuan Yew. In the end LKY forced Ong Teng Cheong to retire as President of Singapore due to his cancer diseases(which his son LHL also have cancer but he can still stayed in his PM position) .

I think because of that he was not given state funeral. So Sad!

Yeah, right. Very easy to make conjectures. The establishment had to organise a state funeral which was not called a state funeral (gun hearse and all) because of the family.

Not many people know this, but I was told, Goh Keng Swee was given a pension of $1 million when he retired. A hefty sum in those days.
