FORMER Deputy Prime Minister Goh Keng Swee, regarded as the architect of Singapore's economic and financial policies, died early on Friday morning after a long illness. He was 91.

Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, who went to Dr Goh's home on Friday morning, told reporters afterwards that arrangements were being made for a State Funeral to be held next week

Dr Goh's body will initially be at his home for family and friends to pay their respects.

Mr Yeo described Dr Goh as someone 'who has done so much for Singapore and is someone to whom we owe a great debt'.

Dr Goh will be remembered, above all, for his role as the prime architect of Singapore's economic success.

Now all the propaganda bullshit start coming out. People need to ask how can a young man at that time, got a brand new degree from LSE, go back to singapore with no experience as an economist, never worked for any financial or economic company, can suddenly become so genius as to be the prime architect of S'pore's economic success? Ong Teng Cheong has never been docile, by the way, even in Cabinet, not yet in Istana. He was the prime mover behind Changi Airport and MRT. That was his job then, and he did it well. He straddled and conceded the Nantah demise, that was inevitable and unsalvageable. But he also championed SAP to upkeep certain standard of Chinese language in Singapore in exchange. That wasn't his job, just value-add. He wasn't Education Minister, Tony Tan was at that time. Tony Tan couldn't even construct a sentence in proper Chinese and couldn't give a damn what happened to Chinese language.

LKY knew his value and contribution. Made him Chairman of PAP, second man only to LKY. He could tell LHL to go fly kite or fuck spider, not others except LKY himself. GCT played the game well, he befriended LHL.

Goh Keng Swee in his younger days (when he was Minister of Defence) kept a mistress in Taiwan. He flew often to Taipei for his flings. Guess many people knew about this including the Old Man. Old Man allowed these flings, but told him to keep it strictly out of Singapore.

OTC was no angel. It was only when he discovered that he was not going to get the establishment support for re-election as president that he started to kick up the reserve issue. As president, he would have all the pomp of the office and not to mention the salary and all his medical treatment paid for and be treated as a VIP in hospital.

Incidentally, does any one know whether Goh Keng Swee was given any state honours like PBM.
