SINGAPORE - McDonald’s decision to charge customers if they ask for additional sauces from Jan 2, 2025, has drawn fiery comments online and left a sour taste in their mouths.

“What a horrid start to 2025,” said a commenter. “Outrageous,” said another.

According to an update on its website, McDonald’s said the “nominal charge” was for sauces “beyond the allocated quantities for specific menu items”, citing the management of food waste and rising food costs.

The allocation of sauces is in accordance with McDonald’s policy that “takes into consideration the appropriate number of sauce packs to be enjoyed with the food”, according to its website, without going into detail.

With the exception of ketchup and garlic chilli sauce, McDonald’s will be charging for all other sauces if customers request an additional amount beyond the usual allocation for respective menu products.

These are:
  • Chicken McNuggets dipping sauce (barbecue, curry, honey mustard) – 50 cents per tub
  • Hotcakes syrup – 50 cents per tub
  • Whipped butter pad (for hotcakes and corn cup) – 50 cents per tub
  • Salad dressing (Japanese dressing roasted sesame) – 70 cents per packet

After the new charges kick in, ketchup and garlic chilli sauce will continue to be provided at no charge. The fast-food chain did not mention what will happen to the ketchup and chilli sauce dispensers at its outlets.

In 2012, McDonald’s implemented a similar quota for allocated sauces for meals with nuggets, with additional sauces charged at 30 cents each.

The Straits Times has contacted McDonald’s for more information.

This is the right decision. Coolie gene Sinkies have been treating fast food restaurants as their foc grocery shops.

So between now and 31 Dec every fucker buying McNuggets will ask for extra sauce packets

One tub of sauce is good for about 3 to 4 pieces of nuggets.

One tub for 6 pieces is a tad too stingy.

Four tubs for 20 pieces = 1:5 ratio.

Stick to the 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, rounded down when necessary, and it will be fine.

but curry sauce 1 tub down next day jitao sore throat, so i usually will dip sparingly :D

If this is another Asian country some businessman would have began making and selling MacD's type of curry sauce to take advantage of this.

But sinkies are just too programmed by Pap to be consumerist slaves.

Their idea of "entrepreneurship" is to be an insurance or property agent LOL

Or maybe McDonalds wants it sauces to be available only at its restaurants. Saying your sauce is 'McDonalds' sauce will get your sued until your panties fly off.

problem is high cost of food manufacturing here leh. ingredients needs to be imported, labour expensive, land costs for factory high, consumer market too small, then pap also wants to take a cut ... will bankrupt very fast one

Not everyone is yaogui. Effects from high rental, high operating costs & everything got to cut. Generosity is gone breeding another pay & pay society.
