</TR><!-- headline one : end --><!-- show image if available --></TBODY></TABLE>

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->WE REFER to the Forum Online letter, "StarHub's simplified price plans mean higher cable TV bills" (April 29), by Mr Wallace Goh on the discontinuation of StarHub TV Value Packs.
We would like to thank Mr Goh for giving us the opportunity to clarify a number of points he raised in his letter.
First, we would like to highlight that Value Packs are bundled discount schemes that were introduced in 2001 in the form of pre-determined packages of channels for customers who were unfamiliar with our services to sample channels of specific genres.
Since then, we have launched around 100 channels and most of these channels are not part of any Value Pack. To help our customers choose specific channels from the extensive range that is now available, we have replaced them with new discount schemes with added flexibility and ease of selection.
Second, existing Value Pack customers who are eligible for a 12-month special discount will experience minimal impact on their monthly price plans. In Mr Goh's case, there is in fact no change to his monthly price plan. The only difference now is that he will no longer receive the monthly rental waiver of his first digital set-top box.
The monthly rental waiver for use of the first digital set-top box was introduced during the launch of our digital platform in 2004, as a time-based promotion to encourage customers to sample our digital channels and features. We would like to explain that as the cost of maintaining our digital system and digital set-top boxes has risen over the years and will continue to rise,

=> This is new. Since when electronic appliance prices rise with time? Just admit that there're more jiat liao bee ex-paper generals to feed lah!

we are unable to continue to waive the rental fee indefinitely. However, StarHub will continue to waive the rental fee of the first digital set-top box for all Value Pack customers for a period of three months, following the discontinuation of our Value Packs.
We have since contacted Mr Goh to clarify these points with him.
We thank Mr Goh for his feedback and would like to assure him that we will continue to review our packages from time to time to ensure that they remain relevant and affordable to all our customers.
