I really loved the show and it resonated a lot with my wife and me.
I totally agree your points.
The way I see it is those people who are working hard and struggling buy lottery in the hopes they can win and no longer have to work so hard, sometimes wish they could die and no longer have to suffer (depressed or burnt out from work) will be able to much better relate to the characters.
You are right. Thats why comfortable retirees who dont have to worry about money no longer stressed about work and paying bills and supporting children will find the show boring.
The characters are all losers and I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. One guy tried to do a Nick Leeson instead of just using his superior intellect to trade within the rules.
Another gambles away all his money every time he has some and then borrows money to further fund his addiction.
The Paki who is owed money by his boss can easily get another job in booming S Korea.
The guy I can relate to is the old fart with a brain tumor.
