A Singaporean teacher was found dead in her Cambodia home yesterday. She was seen to have suffered "a big head wound" and there was blood coming out from the room.
According to The Straits Times report, Mrs Wendy Ng, 52, was a relief principal at the Hope International School in Cambodia.
She was found in a room at her two-storey home in the province of Kampong Speu, west of the capital Phnom Penh. This sparked a murder investigation.
Pastor Sinai Phouek, the director of New Hope for Orphans in Cambodia, told The Straits Times that colleagues went to investigate when Mrs Ng did not turn up for work at the Christian school.
"They couldn't get through to her. They saw blood coming out from the room and tried to break open the door," he said, adding that she had a big head wound.
Police found that Mrs Ng's iPad, a Samsung Galaxy phone and about $400 in Cambodian and Singapore money were missing from her home, said Mr Phouek.
The house did not appear to have been ransacked and the items were later found buried under a tree about 200m away.
Five men were arrested last night.
Mrs Ng lived alone and made regular trips to Cambodia for 10 years. This time she was working at the school for a month.
Mr Phouek, who has known Mrs Ng for more than 10 years, described Mrs Ng as a "lovely, passionate and very good person".
Her body is expected to be flown to Singapore today.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said its embassy in Phnom Penh is in touch with the family and providing consular aid.
