REAR-ADMIRAL Ng Chee Peng, 41, took over from Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong as the Chief of Navy at a ceremony at Changi Naval Base yesterday.
Chief of Defence Force Neo Kian Hong and other military top brass attended the event.
Taking top posts in the military seems to run in the Ng family. RADM Ng's brother, Major-General Ng Chee Meng, 43, is the Chief of Air Force, and their elder brother, Major-General (NS) Ng Chee Khern, used to be the air force chief. He now heads the Security and Intelligence Division.
RADM Ng joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in December 1988. The following year, he was awarded the President's and SAF Overseas scholarships.
During his military career, he commanded the Missile Corvette Squadron and the 1st Flotilla of the Republic of Singapore Navy. He also served as director (policy) in the Ministry of Defence.
RADM Chew, 44, who became navy chief in 2007, joined the SAF in December 1985. He has held other appointments such as head of the naval operations department and fleet commander.
He will return to the Administrative Service.
