World Cup fans wait for broadcast ruling

Viewers are eager to see whether the dispute over broadcasting all matches of the 2014 World Cup via free-to-air TV channels will be settled before the first match kicks off on Thursday.

RS Plc, the broadcast rights holder of the tournament, is fighting a court case in the Supreme Administrative Court with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) which wants RS to broadcast all 64 matches on free TV as required by the "must-have rule".

The rule requires seven major sporting events to be broadcast on free TV so the public can enjoy watching them.

But the entertainment company plans to broadcast only 22 matches on two free TV channels — channels 7 and 8.

The Central Administrative Court in early April ruled in favour of RS, but the broadcasting regulator appealed.

The court will hold its first proceeding on Tuesday after the court finishes the process of gathering evidence today.

Many people expect the court to rule before the first match.

"It is possible the court may give the ruling on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest," said Pasu Srihiran, executive director of the NBTC's broadcasting policy bureau. He said the court will likely give the ruling before Thursday's Brazil-Croatia match.

The company has held talks with RS for a deal that could award TrueVisions sub-licencing rights.

Meanwhile, National Police deputy commissioner Ake Angsananond said police would tighten measures to suppress football gambling during the World Cup.

They urged people to phone 1599 if they have any information regarding football gambling.

Wimps like Lawrence Wong who insisted that we are price takers, are the ones who will do us in. I don't see him complain about his salary, no?

Then come back a couple of grand lesser (or more), and a swollen dick. :D

Nonsense, the IDA is doing its job perfectly.

In Sinkieland, there is no difference between the telco business and its regulator. They feed off the same trough.
