A cleaner, who kicked and punched his 84-year-old father, fracturing his rib cage, was jailed for five years and ordered to be caned nine times by a district court on Wednesday.

This Fucker, 40, went to his parents' Toa Payoh flat at 4am on March 21. His father,an old man, who was sleeping on the sofa in the living room, woke up.

Fucker turned violent as he thought his dad was "looking at him in an angry manner".

He slapped his father several times until the older man apologised. He also rained punches and kicks on his face, neck and chest until other family members stopped the assault. His sister, 36, then called police for assistance.

The father was so badly injured he had to be warded in the intensive care unit of the Changi General Hospital. His sternum, four ribs and thyroid cartilage were fractured and he was hospitalised for nearly a month. His left cheek was also badly bruised and there was bleeding of the brain. He has recovered.
