SINGAPORE - Are the women moonlighting as prostitutes here a health risk?

Some men have told their doctors that they contracted sexually transmitted infections (STIs) after one-night stands with women they met at clubs and KTV lounges here.

A doctor from M Lam Clinic in Geylang said: "Many of them use a condom, but many don't know that they also need to use it during oral sex and foreplay, and not just intercourse."

The clinic, which offers anonymous HIV testing, has seen more men seeking treatment for STIs over the last two years, he said.

But the doctor, who requested anonymity, puts this increase to his clinic's location in Geylang. He said: "Typically, they come to be treated for herpes simplex and gonorrhoea.

"I also see men and women seeking treatment for chlamydia and viral warts.

"Many of the women look distressed when I ask them if they contracted the disease from their husbands.

"While they can't confirm for sure, many suspect it's from their husbands."

'No guarantees'

The men said they believe they contracted their STIs from the women they met in pubs, clubs and brothels here or overseas, said the doctor.

Said one man who frequents pubs where entertainers moonlight as prostitutes: "A number of these foreign girls are here on social visit passes.

"Unlike those in the legal brothels here, there's no guarantee that they regularly go for health checks."

Dr Soh Family Clinic, which offers anonymous HIV testing in Jurong West, hasn't seen any increase in men or women seeking treatment for STIs.

Neither has Ansari Family Clinic in Geylang. But the clinic does not offer anonymous testing.

In June last year, police arrested 20 Vietnamese women - some of whom were found having sex with customers - in a raid at a Joo Chiat KTV pub.

Last year, police made 5,206 arrests of foreign women suspected of involvement in vice-related activities.

And as recently as Aug 10, police arrested 38 foreign women working in nightspots for unlawful employment and immigration offences.

Be careful. Ask the prc meimei or minah to brush teeth first before eating your hotdog.:o

Now is STI? Used to be just plain VD, then STD......now STI?!

The other S..T.I.(Shit Times Index), is equally bad, wrong 'bow', you get VD of bank accounts!!, ha ha ha , VD say VD...must check quality before blow, make sure not 'cold sores' on the lips, use mouth wash before blow ( not guarantee by prevention better the cure), in case of doubt use protection..:D

LOL. The STI Index is rising!

Seriously, why not call them sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)? More negative connotations associated with the word 'disease'? Don't want to hurt sensitive feelings?

Please, just stop all this politically correct bullshit.
