Some bosses prefer single women
I AM writing in response to the report, 'Kudos to women but low birth rate worries PM' (my paper, Aug 5).
There are companies which do not want to employ married women, citing their family commitments as an issue.
This is what my married friends have experienced at job interviews. They were asked if they were planning to have children.
Interviewers would then say that they were looking for someone with no commitments outside work as the hours are long.
This is why many women are marrying later as they wish to build their careers earlier in life.
There are also women who have lost their jobs because they are pregnant, as there are employers who are scared off by the fourmonth maternity-leave period.
