the first wave of PVA that fought and pushed back the USA and South Korean forces were mostly former KMT soldiers of General Fu Zouyi who surrendered Beiping to the CCP in Jan 1949. it is said Fu Zouyi was furious that his men were deployed to fight the Korean war.

That is the punishment he got for surrendering. If he had continued, he could have ceated another chinese state to the north.

After WW2, China went to war with US, India, the USSR and Vietnam.
The longest conflict was with Vietnam, from 1979 to 1991. The conflict ended after Vietnam withdraw its troops from Cambodia.
China then maintained a low profile and focused on developing its economy.
