SO What Is The OFFICIAL EXCUSE For The FLOOD?

They might just blame it on the weather man for not providing accurate info in advance for them to make decisions and take actions.

The weather man will blame it on global warming, El Nino effect etc (quoting examples from overseas like the recent floods in China so we are not alone) and say it is almost impossible to predict with 100% accuratecy given today's technology.

So in the end, its the an act of God and unless God can appear in front of us or in Suntec to tell us why he flood Singapore, the case will be closed.

And btw, there will probably be a new committee to "look into this matter" and maybe a MOFA (Minister of Floods Administration) will be appointed.

Doesn't this come under..that "French Cooking" civil sarvant now at the PMO doing climate change..or something like that..

Now you waiting for God to appear to give you answers? ha ha ha were we expecting Moses ( not Moses Lee) to appear to part the water on June 16, 2010?

Orchard Road Flooding the fault of Heartlanders

SINGAPORE: The Prime Minister's Office released a statement today indicating that the Orchard Road flood is entirely the fault of native born Singaporeans.

In its statement the PMO highlighted that fact that more and more Singaporeans are complaining about the ruling party's foreign talent policies, the huge losses suffered by Temasek Holdings and GIC, and the high prices of their heavily subsidized HDB flats. The PMO is in particular perturbed by the inability of the local populace to grasp the genetic superiority of the Lee family.

As a result of the incessant whining and gripping, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Environment to release the wrath of the PAP onto Orchard Road in the form of a biblical flood. From hence forth, it is hoped that all criticism of the Lee family policies will cease and desist. Failure to accept Lee policies unconditionally will result in more wrath of Lee floodings.

Actually, I did call them. I spoke to a Farida. I asked her if the Marina Barrage was working, and she asked what I meant. I said there is much flooding and they should activate their anti flood plans. She replied that she would tell the officer in charge.

I also told her to tell her million dollar minister to wake up his idea.

But I'm sure she ignored me.

Oh yes, I forgot there is a new guy in charge of climate change. So they have indeed predicted the floods and has already put a guy in charge. Unfortunately, the flood came earlier than expected and since this guy is still in his probation period, we should give him a break.

I think this is an Omen and we should put someone in charge of building an Ark before 2012. We should start the selection process now as to who can get in the Ark.

Any soil or civil engineers here? I am not one, but using some common sense and logic, of course the flood was due to insufficient drainage which is to state the obvious. But why is there insufficient drainage? Could it be due to the extent of earth and soil displacement that have taken place to construct the Circle and Downtown lines, and of course all the other earthworks to build condos and commercial developments and even the casino at MBS? Could all these earth and soil displacements have altered the water table? If you have so much concrete in the ground, and the earth is forced in between, you are inadvertently creating lots of capillary effects which mean that when it rains, the runoffs will saturate the ground faster since the ground now has also a lower water-bearing /holding capacity, so all the water just drains to lower levels where the streets are.
