JOHOR BARU - Two snatch thieves were beaten up by the public after they robbed a woman of her gold chain at a pedestrian bridge near Pasar Borong Pandan here.
The two men had followed the woman, who was crossing the bridge to Kg Melayu Pandan, and snatched the chain from her neck at around 4.40pm on Tuesday and ran off.
"The victim's screams attracted the attention of others around the area and they caught the thieves," said Johor Baru South acting OCPD Supt Abd Samad Salleh.
He said the thieves were beaten up and tied with ropes before police arrived.
Supt Abd Samad said here yesterday that the chain was found in the back pocket of one of the suspects.
He said both men were brought to the hospital for treatment and one of them had to be warded.
"I thank the public for their quick action but I have to remind them not to act too brashly to the point of going against the law," he said.
He said that the case would be investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
