S$5,000 offered to Thai amputee not compensation: SMRT

SINGAPORE : SMRT has clarified that the money offered to a 15-year-old Thai girl who lost both her legs after falling onto the MRT tracks in Ang Mo Kio was a gesture of goodwill and not compensation. The transport company said compensation would only be made after police have concluded their investigations.

SMRT said S$5,000 was offered to Nitcharee's father, Mr Kittanesh Pen-eakchanasak at the end of May.

It had made known to both the Thai Embasy and Mr Kittanesh that the offer was only a gesture of goodwill, it added.

Hence, it was surprised that reports had quoted Mr Kittanesh as considering the money as compensation.

SMRT said another S$10,000 was offered to Nitcharee's family to travel to Singapore when Nitcharee was still in hospital.

This, it said, was also a gesture of goodwill.

AssMrt need to show 'goodwill' to its daily passengers too leh.

So final compensation include or exclude this "goodwill" or not?

It was good they paid $5,000, it was not their will that they pay another $10,000. It is good that the Thai's will be hunting for a S$1,000,000. That is goodwill!

If victim is local, sure kana sued by Assmrt for disrupting train services

Agree with you no less. Locals are now no-class citizens while foreigners are first class residents in this sinkieland.

If the victim was a local would SMRT show so much goodwill:confused:

It is local, it your fault that you fell onto the track, your fault you disrupted the train services, inconvenienced commuters, made the train provider to lose money...it is your fault!.

SINgaporeans are 3rd class citizen in their own country!

How did she fall? The cctv footage would be priceless

If she fainted as SMRT claimed, the videos would be all over the place.

As we haven't seen any videos it's either the cameras weren't working or something else like being pushed from behind by the crowds:confused:
