Serious SMRT And MTR Shipping Back Defective Trains Secretly! Guess The Manufacturer?

All government resources will be directed to destroy Factwire News Agency.

It us very difficult to accept LTA's statement that the defects are non life-risky, yet need to ship back all 30+ of monstrous-size train cabin just because of warranty.

We don't see millions of cars being ship back to manufacturer for defects in recalls even though cars are so much smaller.

Guess someone screwed up big time and now trying to hide from commuters by secretly shipping back so many train cabins to factory for 'small' remedy work.

Unbelievable ! Well, what else can be believed in SG since old guards' days?

Our beloved 'old guard' played an active role in demolishing the opposition camp and ensuring they have no foothold in any part of Singapore. Whatever happens now is just a natural continuation of the seeds sown during the old guard's time.

You can add this to the list of potential death traps let in by the PAP. with sinkies citizens already playing russian roulette everytime they see a doctor or get a medical test done, simply because its not known whether the person looking after them is a 3rd world FT. We now have been playing russian roulette every time we take a MRT train. Structural cracks in body of the train and in the key components means it is just plain luck that no train has derailed or disintergated with a car load of humans inside. Fucking PAP.

You forgot hdb heartlanders take lifts also risking life. Hahaha 70% huat ah!

In response to the news of SMRT Trains Ltd (SMRT) secretly sending 35 defective train carriages back to its manufacturer in June, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has posted on its Facebook page, saying that it had been working closely with the train manufacturer and that the defects are not safety-critical.

Just today, FactWire News Agency, a watchdog news organization released an exclusive report on 35 train carriages belonging to local train operator, SMRT being shipped back to its manufacturer on 12 June due to alleged existing defects.

In its report, FactWire verified and documented the whole transportation after being tipped off by a mainland source in the railway industry that SMRT was secretly shipping defective trains back to mainland China for replacement and repair by manufacturer CSR Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Company Ltd (CSR Sifang).

LTA wrote,

The Land Transport Authority has been working closely with train manufacturer, Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CSR Sifang, on defects that were found on trains purchased under C151A. These defects, found on the train body, are not safety-critical and do not affect the train’s systems or performance. The train manufacturer will be required to make good the defects as part of their warranty.

Trains on the rail network are extensively tested to ensure the safety and reliability of the train. Every train also undergoes a comprehensive regime of static and dynamic testing as well as interface testing to ensure its structural and operational integrity. After the testing is completed, the trains are delivered to Singapore for further testing before they are placed for passenger service.

However, LTA did not mention how long the repairs will take in its Facebook posting.

In response to media queries, SMRT Trains managing director Lee Ling Wee said: "Our engineers discovered that 26 of the 35 trains delivered by the manufacturer had cracks in the structure connecting the car body and the bogie after they were delivered in 2013."

"Since then, we have been working closely with the Land Transport Authority and the manufacturer to rectify the issue.

"The defective trains, which are still under warranty, will be repaired by the manufacturer. All 26 trains will be repaired by 2023."

This means that the "not safety-critical" defects as claimed by LTA, will take 7 years for the China based manufacturer to repair.

Mr Lee did not address the claims made by FactWire that SMRT suspected serious malfunctions occurred on the SMRT’s North South Line in December 2011, were caused by C151A trains manufactured by CSR Sifang. And neither did he dismissed the claim of a subcontractor responsible for supplying train components to CSR Sifang informing FactWire that SMRT significantly reduced the frequency of C151A trains after the malfunctions in 2011 and asked to delay payment for extra trains of the same series.

This raises questions as to when exactly did SMRT got to know of the existing defects in the train carriages.

Response by public by LTA's statement

Netizens were not convinced with LTA's statement made on its Facebook page and lambasted the stat board with further questions.

One commenter in particular, Emily Mok posted a series of questions to LTA.

This raises many questions:

1) If they're not safety-critical, why are they sent back? Who is paying for the transport? is it the LTA/SMRT (which really means us the taxpayers), or the manufacturers?

2) If they do not affect the train's systems or performance, see Q1 again.

3) Even with the self-proclaimed "extensively tested...reliability....comprehensive regime.. static and dynamic testing", our trains are breaking down at an alarming rate. Which means one of 2 things: either you guys are ticking those check marks w/o any checks whatsoever, or your testings standards are irrelevant.

4) Does the LTA / SMRT place profits, and profits alone, above safety of commuters, who incidentally are the ones paying for you to run the operations?

5) If news of this didn't break out online, does the LTA not intend to make this known to the public?

6) Why was this only made known to the public only AFTER news broke out online?

7) On a slightly unrelated note: Why is the CEO of SMART still getting close to $2m a year in remuneration, with such an atrocious string of breakdowns?

LTA did not reply to Mok's questions at the time of publication.

They bought the trains from Ah Tiongs because there were huge commissions given to some people?

The commissions are definitely not paid here, if there is any....& there are other benefits that, is not easy to trace...like "entertainment"...."investment"...." management fees"..."petty cash"....just to name a few..

Those bastards at LTA who had approved this purchase must definitely be sacked. How can they buy Made-In-China trains, even if they are made with the supervision of Kawasaki? If safety is not a concern for these defects (as they try to cover themselves now), why the need to return them to China for rectification? Wouldn't some welding works be able to resolve the problem? Those LTA bastards still trying to cover up and con the naive public.:oIo:

The trains should be under some kind of warranty. and the defects are structural in nature, they cannot be fixed in singapore and have to be send back to china. When the body cracks are too much, no amount of welding can resolve the problem. It just goes to tell you how bad the problem was. It was a matter of time before one of the trains failed and derailed, causing deaths and injuries to sinkies.

Honestly the whole World does not order expensive stuff from China and India for an obvious reason. You can have the specs made crystal clear, bring in an independent assessor to confirm spec and quality when it leaves their factories but everyone nows it will beak down faster than you can shout "fucked up".

Should ask our transport minister to fly around in Chinese made jet.

as someone who had handled billion dollar projects with first rate chinese firms, the above comments are concise and accurate.

I guess the rot will show up in many more ways.

in tiongland when there's a train wreck, they just clear them from the tracks and dump them on the side.....and life goes on. the next train needs the tracks to run on time. they expect sg to do the same thing....if they are faulty or wrecks, throw them aside and get new ones. if they break, mei wen ti, keep getting new ones. lives and replacements are cheap. stfu and just move along. chop chop. that's the tiong psyche of the 21st century. i'm glad smrt and mtr found their kindred partners in meat-grinding efficiency. chop chop.

If many samsters trust china hands for their massages, why not for their trains and jets?

On jets, here is another story..

The chinese has been trying to manufacture commercial jets since 1990.. COMAC, The commercial
aircraft corporation was thus set up...

Only this year 2016, after some 26 years, the first chinese commercial jet C919 is rolled out.

Over the years, they failed to roll out any airplane..The chinese are world renown to cut corners and save cost and also make fakes. Can we trust these commercial jets...and allow them to fly into our country..?? They may crash into our tall buildings setting off another 9/11 Asia version.

Remember, Garuda Indonesia has such bad safety record that it is barred from flying into Europe.

The chinese are buying billions of $$$ of planes from BOEing & Airbus. Obviously they don't have have the know how to manufacture locally. Even if they did, there is no guarantee that corners would not be cut :D

They are also buying jet aircraft from Russia to improve the quality of military aircraft in case they decide to bully Taiwan.

China's massage always got happy endings what.
Trains also got "happy endings" too, and take 3 to 7 years at that!
:D

Looks like damn serious problems. From Wiki:

On July 2016, it was revealed that SMRT had begun recalling 26 of 35 C151A trains back to China for repair by manufacturer CSR Sifang after structural defects had been discovered in 2013. Problems include cracks in structural components, including the sub-floor and bolster function parts connecting the car body to the bogie. The propulsion system, engine system and other components had to be replaced. Flaws in the aluminium bodywork led to the complete replacement of the frame.[SUP][7][/SUP][SUP][8][/SUP]
It was announced that the defective trains will be repaired by 2019, and that CSR Sifang will have to fix the defects as part of their warranty although the defects do not affect the performance of the trains.

It will be an unhappy ending when one of these trains derail.

Yes. The lowest bid was not them, but a South Korean company. The China/Kawasaki bid was the second lowest. SMRT claim to go with the second lowest bid because the quality was better. ahhahahhah. Tells me SMRT does not know quality when they see it. A prudent transportation company would have posted its own engineers to China to take observer status and over view the production of these trains.

Likewise we shud ship back Saw Piak Hua & Des Choo choo...............defective materials
