Re: Some Zika Cases Detected

Singos are kids and kids don't need serious things like the truth…they need lots of shops, makan places, greenery, shiny tech gadgets, cars and brands that they can purchase on credit to show off…this takes up all their time, leaving none to think critically.

What will they do even if they knew the truth…singos panic easily…lets not fuel this.

the pap wants to feed Singaporeans with their "truths" abt Zika, Hep C, foreigners, etc and overwhelm them with Pokemon Go, Korean dramas, etc. That's why I say PAP is killing Singapore.

69.9% are blissfully deceived. To save Singapore, the other 30.1% are working hard to convert at least 20% of these blissfully ignorant Singaporeans by GE 2020

If hit level 3 , i worry...

TAIPEI: Taiwan's Centre for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday (Aug 29) has raised the travel notice level for Singapore to Level 2 for the Zika virus. The CDC also advised pregnant women not to travel to the Southeast Asian city-state.

In a statement, the CDC also advised travellers to Singapore to take precautionary measures against mosquitoes.

Under the CDC's three-tier system, a Level 1 travel warning urges vigilance and health precautions, while Level 2 calls for a high degree of caution and strong protective measures, and Level 3 advises against travel to or from a specified destination.

The move by the Taiwanese authorities comes a day after Singapore reported there were 41 cases of locally transmitted Zika.

The 69.9% are still happily believing what the pap says abt Zika situation in SG.

Those working at the Communicable Disease Centre know that we have more than 41 cases and the pap must know that many of us know the true situation

I doubt if the deformities will be noticeable in Singapore. Most would just assume that the babies with small heads are Hainanese.

the trust is so low now that many Singaporeans think that the pap may not reveal the truth if a new born deformed baby is Zika infected.

Just because you don't trust the PAP does not mean the rest of the country feels the same way.

i speak from my experience and my cycle of friends who are true Singaporeans. We dont trust the pap what the pap say. and that's what matters to us. Whether another man believes the pap is his choice

My friends are all true Singaporeans too. We've known each other since our army days.

All of them trust the PAP completely. It is the PAP which has made Singapore what it is today.

Your "cycle" of friends must all be retards.

because i dont trust the pap, i do my own calculations, planning, investments and chart my own life. And I am happy that the more i chart and plan my life, the more i see the true pap. I dont believe that CPF Life is good for Singaporeans. i dont believe the pap comes out with Medishield Life because it cares for Singaporeans.

CPF Life and Medishield Life are pap schemes to benefit the fund managers at the expense of Singaporeans. Singaporeans can pay Medishield Life throughout their lives, but once sick, they will realise the woes and evils os pap's Medishield Life scheme. In the meantime, the dund managers and insurance comapnies are laughing their way to the bank

http://theindependent.sg/wp-prompt-public-notification-of-zika-important/WP: Prompt public notification of Zika important
By The Independent - August 28, 2016 3138

The following is a media release by the Workers’ Party.

The Workers’ Party notes with concern the confirmation of 41 cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection. We express our solidarity with all persons affected by the Zika virus and we wish all patients a speedy recovery.

Prompt public notification of Zika cases is important so that members of the public in the affected areas can take the necessary precautions and so that stakeholders can take vector control measures.

As a matter of process improvement and learning, we call on the government to clarify the time-line for public notification of these cases as follows.

1. For all of the 41 cases of positive Zika infection transmitted locally, was it the case that all were not tested positive until after 27 August, which was when the news was released about the 47-year old Malaysian female patient who tested positive?

2. Was the same criteria in terms of number of tests and degree of evidence applied to the case of the one Zika patient notified to the public on 27 August as for the other 40 cases notified today, on 28 August?

All residents of Singapore need the same degree of care and protection from Zika. We would also like to express our strongest support to public sector workers undertaking vector control.

Good of Leon, BUT Workers Party should be more aggressive in Parliament and nail them with records and better debating. The days of "lying low" by Low and SL are gone since the public have given them adequate support. If they continue to behave in like manner, they will lose more in the next elections.

I am most perturbed at the behavior of the current "ministers" and civil servants. They are all "appointed" from the PAP elites and have no real political abilities and leadership qualities.

Zika: MOH under fire for not doing enough
Aug 29, 2016 10.08AM | Daniel Yap linkedin

by Daniel Yap

IT WAS “almost inevitable” that Zika would come to Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in April. Now not only is it here, it has spread, with 41 confirmed locally-transmitted cases. Certainly, there are many more still unknown and yet to come.

In fact, its spread had already been happening for a while under our noses. The Zika test takes three hours to show if a patient is positive or negative for the virus. The first suspicion was on Aug 22, when a GP in Aljunied raised the alarm over a series of suspicious cases to MOH. MOH believed it was a mild viral illness, and asked that further cases be brought to the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC). Then on Aug 25, a 47-year-old woman, Patient A, was referred to the CDC and was confirmed to be infected (ST’s report said she went to CDC on Aug 26, Today says Aug 25). All past cases in the area were dug up and tested and it turned out that people were being infected as far back as July 31. MOH announced Patient A on Aug 27. The other 40 cases were announced on Aug 28.

The answer to questions posed to MOH about why two days passed between Patient A presenting herself to the CDC and the first announcement was vague. You can read Today’s transcript here.

Since Zika was “almost inevitable”, and since an imported case had already been reported in May, shouldn’t the ministry already have been expecting to see locally-transmitted cases? Why were blood tests not carried out as soon as the GP in Aljunied reported a suspicious trend of viral infections? Why were blood tests not carried out for all individuals presenting such symptoms – did the ministry have to wait for a trend to develop?

MOH said that since the affected persons did not travel to infected countries, they were considered low-risk. This is why they did not test them immediately. The ministry chose to wait and see. Yet it is known that only one in five Zika-infected persons actually presents symptoms. With confirmed infections in places like Thailand and Vietnam, should Singapore not already have begun to treat Zika symptoms more seriously? Why was an individual’s lack of travel to Zika-affected areas a factor that puts them at low risk?

MOH said that there was no cover up for the rash of Zika infections, a question raised in light of the Hepatitis C outbreak last year. In that case, 16 ministry and hospital staff were disciplined for, among other faults, withholding the announcement of the outbreak.

But it is hard to test for a disease that doesn’t present itself in a very unique way. Sometimes the fever is not present. It is hard, but should MOH have set a higher bar?

Dr Leong Hoe Nam, the infectious diseases specialist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital who diagnosed Singapore’s first Zika case in May, thinks that MOH should have done better.

“Every single mild case of fever, they should have investigated,” said Dr Leong, “It was a chance to break the cycle. Kudos to the GP who picked up the trend. We must remember that Zika is very mild, compared to dengue. Patients may not be sick enough to go to hospital but to the GP instead. So the GP now is the gatekeeper.”

Ms Tin Pei Ling, who is the MP for the ward that Patient A lives in, said, “It would have been most ideal to take a more conservative approach at that point in time, if there had been early suspicion, to check if there were any positive cases. But I suppose MOH would have taken the balanced approach between alarming everyone and doing proper checks.”

Would we have been alarmed? The number of cases, 41, is high compared to other countries in the region. It is low, however, when compared with the more deadly dengue, for which there have been nearly 11,000 cases, of which majority were probably locally-transmitted, since the start of this year.

Perhaps it is time we started acting as if Zika could well have traveled beyond the Aljunied cluster. That’s how it got spread so far in the first place, isn’t it?

Re: ANOTHER "LAPSES" ANOTHER DELAY IN REPORTING-Singapore new and latest "FIRST"__

Agree with you on both counts - Wp and this government.

Even an important issue of Zika can be mishandled so badly. Look at the brickbats from all quarters. The trust has gone with this batch of ministers. I am shocked they don't even want to name the construction site even till today despite it being the centre of primary concern.
