Man accused of harbouring prostitutes claims ignorance about their background

A man accused of harbouring Filipinos prostitutes said on Tuesday (5 January) he suspected something was amiss when the women kept coming back to rent the rooms at his flat.
Rahamad Kasim, a 53-year-old taxi driver, told the court that he has been renting the flat at Jalan Ampas for $3,500 a month.
The women testified in court on Monday that they were each paying Rahamad $25 a day to stay at his flat.
“I have been getting a steady flow of women coming to rent the place and the money (from them) is used to offset the monthly rent,” he said during cross examination by Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Sarah Shi.
When asked by District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan whether he was aware of the women’s occupation in Singapore, Rahamad, who was representing himself, claimed that he thought they were social escorts.
“I heard them saying that they were social escorts and to my understanding, social escorts provide company to someone who pays them money to go out for a meal or to watch a movie,” he said.
Rahamad added that he allowed the women to stay at his flat because he assumed that “they are looking for a better job”.
However, he said that when they were leaving the country and renting from him regularly, he realised that they could be prostitutes.
Rahamad is facing 10 charges of harbouring prostitutes and could be jailed up to five years or fined $10,000 for each charge.
The trial ended on Tuesday and both the prosecution and Rahamad will be submitting their written submissions on 19 January.

There are backpacker hostels doing circa $25-30/daily (example in Bukit Merah HDB).
Comes with in-house wifi, and nearby public transport buses/MRT.
So begs the question if the owners are liable under this Woman's Charter "net"?
Also, private condo (lower end) owners or main tenants are into this "daily" or short term rental.
Know of this just behind Lucky Plaza, very convenient to Brix at Hyatt (reknown for FL hangout) and Orchard Towers.
Rooms are sub-divided, partitioned for these "transient" visitors on 2 weeks/1 month social visit passes.
And social visit passes can be extended online with ICA at some shops in Lucky Plaza (for a fee).
Of late, ICA has been stringent on renewals.

This judge must be dumber then dogshit. All the taxi driver has to say is that he is a malay, and the whores are pinays. They speak tagalog and he speak malay. He does not understand nor speak tagalog and since the whores always speak in tagalog, he cannot ascertain from their conversations that they are whores.
