The ancient Israelites led by Moses agreed to that covenant. Nobody decided on behalf of them. They should have opted out of it instead of boasting they could follow every single commandment.

In the end, all that bad stuff happened to the Israelites when they failed to uphold their end of the covenant. Being the 'chosen people of God' is not the same as getting freebies like the muud bumiputera in exchange for doing nothing.
