I paid for 3 school kids to watch a recent cartoon at GV on a weekend.

Their tix + snacks cost $80!!

No wonder people prefer watch streamed movies.
 

Filmgarde Cineplexes shuts down last outlet at Kallang, exits industry​

The Bugis+ branch of Filmgarde Cineplexes closed in 2022 along with its Century Square outlet. The homegrown cinema announced the closure of its last remaining outlet at Leisure Park Kallang on March 25, 2025.
 
In this day and age, it appears that most forms of entertainment may be experienced at home in front of a laptop, iPad or TV. Is it any wonder why there are so many singles? No one goes to watch a movie, eat out or shop at malls any longer.

Cathay cinema at Jem to close as landlord seeks $4.3 million in rental arrears​

The closure of the Cathay cinema in Jem came after more than a year of negotiations with its landlord, Lendlease.
 
The significant increase in S'pore's cinema capacity was, in my view, unsustainable. Attendance figures, even pre-pandemic, demonstrated this, with weekday screenings experiencing extremely low occupancy and weekend screenings only reaching approximately 50% capacity.
