The Singapore Sports School has taken action over an incident involving the creation of indecent deepfake photos of their students.
The photos, which CNA reported were deepfake nude photos, were created by other students and shared amongst several people.
"The school does not condone such harmful behaviour," principal Ong Kim Soon said in response to Mothership's queries.
"The school has launched an investigation and lodged a police report. As police investigations are ongoing, we are unable to share more information," he added.
The police confirmed with Mothership that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.
The school also said the police have been given website links associated with the case, according to a WhatsApp message seen by CNA, and are assisting in requesting the removal of images from these sites.
The message also said the students involved are being interviewed by the police, and that their mobile phones and other devices have been confiscated for forensic examination.
Disciplinary actions have started, the school added, including caning for some students and sports trip bans, suspension from school, training and boarding.
The incident came to light when the father of a victim was informed about the case while speaking to his daughter's mentor on Nov. 11.
Speaking to CNA, the parent revealed that a group of boys started generating and disseminating deepfake nude images of fellow female schoolmates in June.
He emphasised that there were "a huge group of boys" involved, and "not just one or two", though he was unsure of the exact number.
The boys apparently used WhatsApp to communicate.
Other parents of victims have also made police reports.
The parent believed that the school should seriously consider expelling the perpetrators.
"The girls will not feel safe with them lurking in school," said the father.
