singapore mythology: poor helping the poor

I have 1 very simple question for the very educated author of this article. Did she ever bother to tell this Ah Mah where to seek help. There is only so much the government or any charitable org can do. If they are not getting help, then pple like her who knows where to direct the Ah Mah should be stepping up and point them to the proper channels. Writing articles like that serve no real purpose and does not improve the quality of the Ah Mah's life. At best they general some publicity and get some donation which will only help for a few months.

if that ah mah knew how and where to get help, maybe she would be sitting in an air-cond office now.

the trouble with our so-called social welfare line is that they expect uneducated uninformed needies and poor to come to them for the helpline instead of going to them. why are they poor should be quite obvious due to their lack of education. even for those who are reasonably qualified, getting help could really be a tedious chore.

NO ONE SHALL BE LEFT BEHIND...is a total misquote from pinky.

I heard about a volunteer group at lorong 23 Geylang who provide food for the poor and sick , why not contact them for Mdm Lim so that she and her son-in-law and daughter can get help? It's call Willing Hearts , phone number 64765822, in case I got number wrong please check their website. Thanks

that should be the way for singapore charity.

if mohammed can't go to the mountain then bring the mountain to mohammed.

many people want helps but are lost or uninformed where to get the relevant help from. the gov is not really helping much. their so-called "helpline" can be so illusive. not many think there exists one to begin with even though it is there. so u get a feeling that gov is playing a kind of hide-and-seek game with the poor, the needies, the troubled and all those who are helpless. u find their concealed helpline, u get your reward of the pathetic help that sometime makes one wonder whether does that qualify a decent regular meal - in the hawker centre, of course. :(

Are Singaporeans willing to pay more income tax?

If answer is No, then expect more aunties like her. Anyway country run by pia kia doesn't have much empathy for the poor.

goodness! u must be way behind time!! don't u know that even babies have to pay tax now? GST covers everyone. that's the real reason for our pm's NOBODY SHALL BE LEFT BEHIND. babies included.

Sinkieland's GST is nothing compared to Europe's VAT. Tax is just a form of bonus for the PAPzis. The main bulk of their ill gotten gains comes from the GLCs' monopolistic hold on the Singapore economy.
