Singaporean killed during Mumbai hostage incident: official
A Singaporean taken hostage during coordinated attacks across India's commercial capital of Mumbai has been killed, the foreign ministry said Friday.

Lo Hoei Yen, 28, was identified by her husband, who was accompanied by Singapore's high commissioner, Jai Sohan, consular director of the foreign ministry, told reporters at a late-night news conference.

"We were only told, confirmed, at 21:35 hours (1335 GMT) this evening that she had suffered a tragic death," Sohan said.

Her body was found on the 19th floor of the Oberoi/Trident hotel, he said.

At least 93 people, most of them foreigners, were released Friday from the Oberoi/Trident hotel more than 36 hours after armed militants seized the building, police said.

Mumbai's police chief said 24 bodies were found at the hotel after rescue operations concluded.

MS LO Hwei Yen, a 28-year-old Singaporean lawyer who had been taken hostage at a luxury Mumbai hotel, was confirmed dead last night.
Her body was identified by her husband, Mr Michael Puhaindran, who had flown out to Mumbai on Thursday night.
She had flown to Mumbai to attend a business seminar on Wednesday morning, but found herself mired in the violence hours later when terrorists toting guns and grenades overran the posh Oberoi Hotel she was in. She is believed to be the the first Singaporean victim of a terror attack.

It's a very expensive hotel so my guess is from rich family or more likely holding very high position in MNC.

So my guesses are from:

IBM, HP, Hyflux, Microsoft, Standchart,Termasick..

Any other companies with women in high position and likely to travel to India for business?

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Foreign Ministry says the Singaporean Chinese woman held hostage at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai has been killed.

Speaking at a news conference at the Ministry, Director of the Consular Directorate Jai Sohan Singh said they were told at 9:35pm Singapore time that she suffered a tragic death.

This was after her husband, who had flown up to Mumbai, made a final confirmation of her identity. She is 28—year—old lawyer Lo Hwei—Yen.

Indian authorities had found her body on the 19th floor of the hotel.

Mr Singh added there are no more Singaporeans stranded in any of the hotels in the Indian financial capital.

115 Singaporeans were known to be in Mumbai either for work or leisure during the attacks on Wednesday night that have killed some 130 people.

Why are you so sensitive? So what if she dies? What about those who are killed by hit and run accidents in Singapore and the killer has yet to be apprehended or the mindless PAP policies causing painful deaths to those needing proper medical care? How about those who are suffering in Singapore, really suffering, not dirty old men eating sushi from Santaro on national tv. Because it is an exotic Indian theme in Mumbai (what kind of a name is that for Bombay?) you must pour so many tears? Daily dying here don't care. So charbo die must big hoo ha.

An Indian news channel reported yesterday that the terrorists had held the woman at gun point and told her to relay to Singapore diplomats this message: Tell the Mumbai authorities to refrain from acting against them - or lose her life.

This guy got the point. Of the 2, PAP self serving policies are the greater evil of a bigger magnitude. One which causes the much more harm, to the common people.

maybe she was used as a human shield when the indian commandos stormed into the hotel...i'm sure the forensic experts will be able to shed some light on this tragic death...i feel very sorry for this young lady and i feel very sad indeed.

why don't they just release her like the others? she's young, she just got married and she is a lady...why didn't they release her???

do the attackers ever heard of singapore at all? we're such nice people helping others all over the world.why kill one of us? damned sad man...damned tragic.
