Lawrence with his team in Rome.

With the MOF team in Rome for our G20 Italy meetings. I was pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with my Indonesian and Indian counterparts, Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Nirmala Sitharaman, to exchange views on economic outlook and explore various areas of collaboration. Also had a good meeting with India’s Commerce Minister and G20 Sherpa, Piyush Goyal.
At the sidelines, I caught up with Brunei’s Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Amin Liew; and Netherlands Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra.
Apart from the substance, these in-person meetings are also valuable for renewing friendships and making new connections.

Joined PM Lee for bilateral meetings at the sidelines of the G20 Italy Summit, including with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, Indian PM Narendra Modi, European Commission President Ursula von de Leyen, and European Council President Charles Michel.
We had productive discussions in these meetings.
Multilateralism and global cooperation are important as we are all on a common road towards strengthening our pandemic preparedness and response, and building back better together.

Lawrence is glad to be home.

Lawrence Wong

2 hrs ·
Glad to be back home after a short but fruitful visit to Rome for the G20 Italy Summit with PM Lee and Vivian Balakrishnan.
We spent most of the weekend in the conference venue, where many important global issues were discussed, including pandemic response, climate change and sustainable development. Singapore is glad to have had the opportunity to share our perspectives, and we hope that countries will embrace the spirit of cooperation as we work together for a better post-pandemic world.
On the last day of our visit, I also joined PM Lee for his meetings with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Dutch PM Mark Rutte, UK PM Boris Johnson, Indonesian President Presiden Joko Widodo, Australian PM Scott Morrison (ScoMo) and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Will be back in parliament tomorrow, and look forward to joining the conversations and debates.

Lawrence is confident that VTLs will help.

Did my Covid-19 test before departing Rome and upon my arrival at Changi Airport yesterday afternoon. The pre-departure and on-arrival tests are part of the public health control requirements for the vaccinated travel lanes (VTL).
I’m sure many are eager to travel again. Ministry of Transport, Singapore is expanding our VTL scheme in a calibrated and step-by-step manner, informed by the public health assessment of the Covid-19 situation in specific countries, and taking into account the operational risks and implications. Safeguarding public health continues to be a priority.
VTLs can help reunite families, allow students to continue studying abroad, and facilitate business and leisure. For those planning your next overseas trip, do remember to observe the public health and entry requirements set out by the country you plan to visit - most importantly, stay safe and have a good one.

Thanks to the VTL, tourism in Singapore has picked up a bit. There are now more foreigners and foreign talents in Singapore. That's good for our local business. If oppies could only contribute like that to Singapore instead of telling lies in Parliament.

It would be extremely worrying if there was no PAP and VTL.

Happy Deepavali everyone! The festival marks the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness, and gives us confidence in our continuing fight against the virus. May the festival of lights bring peace and happiness to you and your families!

Lawrence congratulates graduating preschoolers.

Congrats to all our graduating preschoolers at PCF Sparkletots @ Limbang!
I'm sure our parents are very proud of all our kids at the first graduation of their lives. Despite the pandemic, they have shown tremendous grit and adaptability, and retained their sense of fun and adventure.
The early years are an important part of our lives. That's why in PCF, we invest a lot and pay attention to ensuring that our kids have a strong foundation, and a good start in life.
Thanks to our PCF principals and teachers for working hard to take good care of the little ones, and to our parents, for being our valued partners in education.
(Thanks PCF Sparkletots @ Limbang for your graduation video)

Lawrence is concerned about emissions.

Lawrence Wong

10 hrs ·
One of the key long-term challenges we face both as a country and globally, is emissions. If we do not work collectively to reduce our carbon emissions, a climate catastrophe may occur by the end of the century or earlier.
That's why I'm glad to see a renewed sense of urgency in the climate agenda at the UN Climate Change Conference #COP26. Together with other countries, Singapore - led by my colleague Grace Fu - is discussing how to better protect our planet. We have also just joined the Powering Past Coal Alliance, an international coalition to promote the transition from coal to clean energy.
In Singapore, we are committed to global green efforts, and are taking proactive steps to decarbonise our economy. We introduced our #SGGreenPlan, and set concrete targets to transform Singapore into a greener and more sustainable city by 2030. We are also investing in a green finance ecosystem to promote the local and regional green economy.
On an individual level, we too can do our part for the environment, like using tingkats to dabao food from the food court, conserving water, and using recyclable bags. Every bit counts. You can share your sustainable living tips below!

We have just had our MTF press conference, where we announced the easing of some measures.
Let's continue to keep to the safe management measures, to help keep our loved ones and community safe. This is all part of our social responsibility. With your cooperation, we hope to see more gradual easing of measures in this step-by-step journey towards reopening.

Lawrence glad to meet Swiss Finance Ministar and his delegation.

Lawrence Wong

12 hrs ·
Glad to have had a productive meeting earlier this week with Swiss Finance Minister Ueli Maurer and his delegation, who are in Singapore for the SG FinTech Festival.
Singapore and Switzerland have a lot in common, and enjoy strong bilateral ties. Minister Maurer and I discussed how we can deepen our financial and economic cooperation in areas such as sustainable finance and FinTech regulation.
I look forward to more of such face-to-face exchanges as we continue to gradually reopen, including through the launch of our VTL with Switzerland.
