[Singapore] - 16 cyclists arrested by Traffic Police & LTA for beating red light and riding against traffic flow on Apr 17 & 18

Must b a cyclists
Cyclists don’t drive such cheap shit. We drive expensive SUV to transport our $20,000 Italian bikes.

must belong to some motorist loser who senselessly bash cyclists on the Internet to compensate for his own abysmal failure in life.

know who am I talking about ? :FU:

Cycling is a tough sport. Those who are not physically and mentally up to the challenge should fuck off and do something else like run an internet forum.
Or they can join the Cybertroop. Be a true blue cyber warrior.

Singapore — A member of the public shared a picture of a cyclist on the road who travelled ahead of other vehicles on the road and said that the cyclist was causing everyone else to have to slow down.

The netizen uploaded a photograph of the cyclist in a Facebook group known as “Complaint Singapore” to speak up about the cyclist’s behaviour on the road.

In the caption of her post, she said that the cyclist was holding up the entire lane and contributed to a traffic jam while causing buses to arrive later at their stops.

Other netizens took to the comment section to share what they thought about the cyclist and the way he behaved on the road.

A netizen advised the poster to bring up the issue to the relevant authorities such as the Land Transport Authority (LTA) so that they could handle the situation.

A few also urged the authorities to take action against errant cyclists especially when they can become a hindrance or pose a danger to everyone else on the road. One, in particular, suggested that the government limit their cycling time so that cyclists do not affect the flow of traffic as much in the future.

Yet another netizen remarked that cyclists like the one in the post were behaving selfishly and lamented the fact that other motorists on the roads are the ones who are being punished, even if a cyclist is the cause of an accident on the road.

Earlier, this month, another netizen shared a video in which an errant cyclist had dangerously swerved out onto the road when he did not have the right of way, shocking drivers who were at the scene.

The cyclist is very fit to be ahead of cars. Motorists just jealous. Slow down, keep a lookout and observe a 1.5 m distance when overtaking.

hit the cyclist and you go jail. Please suck thumb.

A cyclist in Hougang was lucky to end up with no serious injuries after he was hit by a bus on Saturday (Aug. 7).

The accident occurred around 10:15am along Hougang Avenue 9, after the cyclist rode directly into the moving bus' path.

Cyclist rides into bus' path

In a video posted by Facebook page SG Road Vigilante, a man could be seen walking across the road in front of a stopped SBS Transit bus 109.
After the walking man passed, the bus began pulling forward. At the same time, the cyclist began speeding across the road along the crosswalk.

The cyclist appeared to have stood up on his pedals, in an attempt to pick up speed and perhaps dash in front of the bus before it reached him.
Unfortunately for the cyclist, he did not achieve that goal and was hit by the moving bus.

Luckily, the bus was going slow enough and the driver appeared to have been quick-witted enough to hit the brakes before the bus collided with the cyclist. The bus also appears to have quickly pulled to a full stop after the collision, narrowly avoiding running over the cyclist.

Bus had green light in its favour

Responding to Mothership's queries, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at SBS Transit Tammy Tan stated that the collision occurred when the bus was travelling straight along Hougang Avenue 9, with the green light in its favour.
Tan said that the cyclist did not sustain any serious injuries and declined to be conveyed to the hospital.

"We have been in touch with him to extend our concern and have been assured that he is doing well."

The full video of the incident is available here:

Anyone in the bus got injured?

But the bus driver will still get charged for "failure to keep a proper lookout".

Don't be stupid. Law is on our side.

Cyclists are just cheats n crooks and scum of the 1st degree. Now its soo good that they are fighting amongst themselves. ...

Cycling team busted exploiting Olympics loophole

But it may not be in the spirit of the sport with the sight of an entire team all suffering the same injury beyond suspicion.

The use of the tape is within the rules while being used for medical reasons, but it is a loophole that opens the door for different interpretations.

But the event has reportedly been flipped upside down over night with teams demanding the world champions and world record holders be disqualified for the drama.

Channel 7’s Matt Carmichael even reported that rumours were flying around the team had been disqualified and were protesting.

“We had heard that the Danish team would be disqualified for riding with the tape on their shins,” Carmichael said. “They were told not to ride but they rode with it any way.”

The UK media is reporting that British Cycling’s performance director Stephen Park revealed that he believes Denmark should be disqualified for the tape on their shins and undervests they wore with multiple teams launching protests overnight.

Carmichael did reveal however that Aussie Performance Director Simon Jones said “the Danes will be allowed to ride”.

The team’s calculated testing of the tape with a Formula 1 aerodynamics expert has also been revealed following the heats.

Denmark progressed to the medal round as the fastest team with an Olympic record time of 3:45.014.

Ex-Olympian Chris Broadman was among the commentators to question the team’s tactic.

Pro cyclist, Lizzy Banks shrugged off the controversy, before backflipping and suggesting Denmark would have “tested” the tape to see if it gave an advantage.

“I don’t believe that it contravenes the rules if you read the full rules as it does not change the morphology of the rider and the tape does not have a profile change of more than 1mm,” she posted on Twitter.

Hard to see how they thought the world might not notice.

“I am more than certain that Denmark will have triple checked it’s within *current* rules.

“Would be interesting to know the difference it makes though. I assume they’ve tested and found it to be faster but by how much?

“One would think we are talking teeny amounts but then again sometimes a race can be won by those teeny weeny details. Interesting.”

Cycling Weekly columnist and time trial expert Michael Hutchinson also tempted to explain the advantage being gained by Denmark.

In the cycling world, however, reactions were mixed with some complimenting the Danish on finding an advantage on their rivals within the grey area of the rules.

It has since been reported that aerodynamic expert Dan Bigham, who has previously consulted with Formula 1 teams as an aerodynamics advisor, had been working with Denmark cycling in the lead up to the Olympics.

According to cyclingtips.com, the Danish team has also been using footwear and other accessories produced by Bigham’s workshop.

Meanwhile, Britain, New Zealand and Italy also progressed while the Aussie team finished fifth, struggling to recover after Alex Porter’s handlebars gave way.

Porter was unexpectedly thrown out of the back of the quartet and skidded across the floor, leaving him with a bashed right arm and bruises on his face.

Australia and Porter were granted a restart but posted a disappointing time of 3:48.448.

The men’s team pursuit finals are on Wednesday night.

Singapore — A member of the public expressed his disappointment at several other people who parked their bicycles in a coffee shop, claiming they lacked common sense.

The netizen shared about their inconsiderate behaviour in a Facebook group called “Complaint Singapore“.

He also uploaded a photo in which two bicycles could be seen parked next to a table. The photograph also indicated that the netizen was at 888 Plaza, which is a one-stop shopping centre that is located in Woodlands, northern Singapore.

In his caption, he mentioned that he would not judge children for bringing their bicycles into the coffee shop. However, he was shocked that an adult would allow a child to park inside the coffee shop.

“Seems like you don’t have any common sense at all,” he remarked. He added that the Chinese lady and child who had parked their bicycles in the coffee shop were not captured in the photograph.

Other netizens took to the comments section to share their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

One netizen remarked that the pair could have been dining in at the coffee shop. However, the poster wrote that the pair simply entered the premises to takeaway food.

Photo: Facebook Screengrab
Another netizen questioned if the bicycles were obstructing the poster, to which he replied that it was blocking a lot of people’s way due to the queue for a shop forming nearby.

Photo: Facebook Screengrab
Yet another netizen mentioned that there was actually plenty of space for members of the public to park their bicycles outside the shopping centre.

Another netizen also mentioned that there were a lot of e-bikes and scooters in the area, but there was much that management could do regarding the issue.

Around 30 cyclists were seen occupying two lanes along Jalan Bahar this morning (Sept. 5).

A video of the group was posted on ROADS.sg.

Three-lane road

In the video, the driver can be seen heading in the same direction of the big group of cyclists.
The driver, who in the middle lane, sounded the horn at the cyclists ahead.
While most of them kept to the extreme left lane, some were also in the middle lane.
The driver eventually moved to the extreme right lane on the three-lane road.
The Land Transport Authority has certain guidelines for cycling on roads. For instance, while cycling two abreast is permitted on roads that aren't single-lane, and cyclists should always ride as close as practicable to the left-hand edge of roads.

Netizens' comments

One Facebook user pointed out instances like this make "things difficult for the cycling community."

Others also shared their frustrations about cyclists on the road.

However, one said that since it was a fairly empty road, it shouldn't be that big of a deal should cyclists occupy more than one lane.

Singapore — A video of a van attempting to overtake cyclists riding abreast on a single lane road and getting forced to share the lane is circulating online, sparking a call for consideration among road users.

The video, indicating two road offences, was shared by Facebook page ROADS.sg on Sunday (Sept 12).

The incident happened along Kranji Dam on Sunday at around 7:30 am.

At the beginning of the video, the cyclists could be seen riding along the area, which only has a single lane for road users going in one direction.

A silver van was then spotted trying to overtake the cyclists.

The double white lines on the road indicate that no overtaking was allowed.

“Van driver was wrong to have crossed the lane on a double white line to overtake,” noted ROADS.sg.

It added that the penalty was a fine of S$150 and four demerit points.

The caption also noted that cycling abreast on a single carriageway is illegal.

“Some might argue that this is overtaking; please just wait till the road opens up to multiple carriageway,” the post noted.

“Under the RTA (Road Traffic Act), cyclists are not allowed to ride abreast of another cyclist on single-lane roads or within bus lanes during operational hours,” said ROADS.sg, adding that the penalty includes a fine of up to S$1,000, up to three months jail or both.

The post has been shared on various social media platforms, garnering a call for consideration by cyclists, drivers and netizens alike.

Many questioned if the cyclists were aware that riding abreast on a single lane road was against the law.

“Why are cyclists riding abreast on a single carriageway in the first place?!!! I’m a rider myself. I find such entitled mentality abhorrent. Seriously, mandating BTT might be a good idea,” said Facebook user Koichirou Jtan.

Meanwhile, others noted that enforcement action is required to minimize risks to road safety.

“LTA (Land Transport Authority), please do something on single lane road. It is too dangerous to have both cyclist and driver together,” commented Facebook user Tan Chin Hwee.

“LTA and TP (Traffic Police) pls wake up and act on it before another cyclist lying on the road or under a vehicle,” added Facebook user HY Goh.

Many also highlighted that the van might have been in a hurry and had work to accomplish while the cyclists were riding for pleasure.

“He might have a delivery to run. What do you want him to do? Follow the cyclists hogging the road at 20kmh?” asked Dennis Lim.

“The poor van has got places to go and mouths to feed. Get off your precious Strava segment record and pina 5-figure high horses and use the roads with due consideration to other users,” added Facebook user Terence Swee.

“Van is probably on the way to work while the cyclists are cycling for leisure. Can understand the van driver’s angst and rush, though two wrongs don’t make a right,” said Facebook user John Wu.
