airbus had a bigger order for a350 xwbs back in 2013. i'm flying on one of those regularly on the direct sfo-sin flight. used to be the older 777 with a stopover in hk. very soon, i'll be flying on one of the 787-10s with a much safer lithium battery bank.

provisional order for boeing 777-9 and 787-10 jets was made in february 2017. this means rfp happened a year before in early 2016 after airbus delivered its first a350-900 to sia. leverage 2 suppliers to get new designs and better pricing. good job sia!

People are aware that to to get an invitation to the White House is to make big purchase or investment that spells jobs for Americans. Trump and the White House are desperate for any opportunity to say that he is creating jobs for Americans. Najib and Singapore both did it with their Boeing purchases. In Najib's case it was obvious that the Boeing purchase was not in MAS plans and led to the resignation of their CEO.

It remains to be seen if the SIA was forced to make big purchase for the PM to score a White House visit or it was an opportunity to get the invite.

Truly sad to see a great country selling its White House visits in such a manner,
