How did it all go wrong? Recruited in 2005, received education at Sports School with a monthly allowance of $1,350.

Was there a clause to recoup the investment if the candidate changes his mind. Or is it money down the drain.

There are couple of things Sports organisations and Singaporeans need to consider.

1) You can't expect anyone who is of that age to make an informed decision when it comes to Nationality.

2) If they could recruit a 14 year old kid from Indonesia, why can't they recruit a local with the same financial consideration and support. Its in the early teens that one nutures good sportsmen and sportwomen.

3) There is a huge difference between recruiting proven near mature talent and young promising talent.

Let this be a lesson - 3.5 years is a very long ride. More interestingly for the Govt and the country as a whole it reflects how attractive Singapore is as a nation even to an Indonesian from Surabaya.

I believe a better header would be "Singapore takes shuttler for a 3.5 years ride" :p

Even EDB scholars need to pay back when they break their bond. It is clear FT is on better term, no wonder take Singapore for a rid.
