There is a limit to how much income inequality is good for society.
In Hong Kong, innovative monetary policies and financial products have ensure that tenants need to open their shops 24 hrs just to survive.
During the days of more income equalities, US was more innovative and innovations are for the good of the society. These days, innovation is for enslaving consumers and line the pockets of the greedy 1%.
How?
We are able to track everything consumers do via Facebook, iPad etc.
We re able to create purchase behaviours and profile everyone who use social media.
Innovations are now tools used by the 1% to control the masses.
Hardwork and rewards are no longer mutually corelated. There is no more level playing field, no more meritcracy simply because only the rich have the additional resources to overcome exams, take advantage of opportunities andchange the rules of the game to their advantage.

Well, I must say that I do agree with you that the most hardworking, the wisest, and the luckiest can achieve the unachievable. The question is : is that so ? Were there some form of monopoly or oligopoly that ganged up to upz the asses of the masses ? Is there a conspiracy going on behind the facade of 'prosperity' and 'justice' ? Or were these things make believe in the first place ?
But, please do spare me the bloody capitalism bullshit for awhile. This not capitalism, this is the monarchy undead !!! Have you come across a rich guy who does think and work but keeps getting lots of money just because he own some shops, houses and land ? Isn't that a king ? I thought we are a republic here. Can your food taste 10x better when the chef or owner of the restaurant paid ten times more for rental ? No, it will still be the same. Who is taking the risk for this enterprise ? Definitely not the owner of the shop, its the chef or the entrepreneur who has to take the risk of losing his hard earned saving for such entrepreneurship. What value added services do the shop owner provide ? Obviously, nothing. So, who is losing out ?
Let me tell you what the average Americans have not been doing. The citizens of America actually let the two political parties to play the gods. These citizens will be worse of at the end of the day if their powers are left unchecked. That is because these gangsters ganged up with the fuckin' capitalists to take advantage of its people to slave (ie. low and middle income group), to fight and be killed for no reason (ie. soldiers in Iraq), to rob and murder other citizens (ie. Union Carbide) ... the list goes on.
When America was doing well some years ago, they were all laughing at their northern neighbour Canada. They said that Canadians are Socialists. I'm for socialism - equality and justice. What's wrong with it ? There's nothing wrong except on the part that capitalists are being fleeced more in taxation (probably about twice of what God had stated). In some way, the hardworking magicians are feeding the lazy people who depend on handouts. So, entrepreneurs in Canada are being punished for being independent and creative ? Yes, that was a low down. I do agree on this aspect that it is unfair. Only I know that concoction of socialism and capitalism.
I have studied Accounting (a course just before Financial Management). It make me realised that there is no one (ie. no faces) in the accounting format because everything is in dollars and cents. The same thing goes for Furnishings or Office Equipment (ie. no identity of any single object being described on that paper). They are NOT important. They are replaceable. They are NOT the objective of a company. They are a COST and not an investment as they would like you believe it to be. The whole objective is NET PROFIT or gain. It is about money. So, spare me the fuckin' BS about corporate culture and corporate ethics. That fuckin' book did not even bother to elaborate more on ethics. What a hypocrite !! I don't see how the Prentice Hall books are going to tell me that companies are saints and saviours of the world. I don't see it. Yes, I'm a skeptic here. I'm more aware than some of you here. I don't need Nirvana. That fuckin' book was already an enlightenment. Enuff said.

In the US today, graduates are asking the value of their degrees compared to their study debts.
You have to go to the right schools, usu.expensive private schools. The middleclass used to be able to compete for the best public schools, but there are now beaten by the rich who employ entrance interview experts to prepare their kids and give them a headstart. It was not supposed to be loke this.
University students turn to become sugar babies and,or lie their ways to sell themselves to lift their chances in life.
There is no sympathy for losers, in the cut throat world of Wall Street jobs.

Why would anyone want to aim for WS jobs baffles me? You don't need to put up with the crap to be successful in time. There is NO shortcut ...experience and learning constantly.

Most Americans are dumb ...that's why it is so easy for the politicians to take them for a ride. But the politicians are practising true democracy; they are acting based on the expression of the people, however, misguided they may be. If people don't want to think, then they bear the consequences of their action.
At some point of time, there will be an awakening and the elites will end up the paying the price for their greed. The world can't be normal when unemployment is 25 percent in Europe and the social safety net is being shred to pieces.

There is only so much economic growth each developed country achieve. But there are insane salaries n bonuses for the top people. This can only be achived by taking income from working people. That is why Switzerland just put a stop to this insanity.
Italy opt for a playboy as president because austerity is redistributing income to the rich by govt policies.
Is it right that rich bankers are bailed out while handwaorking people are losing their savings through low interest rates.
This is govt and central banks redistributing wealth from working people to the rich!
My arguments against Sam may be all over the place, but when money is disappearing from middleclass and govt redistribute money from middleclass to poor, and central bank redistribute money from middle n working class to the rich. Something is badly wrong as you see in the income inequality video.
Btw, silicon valley has run out of innovation. They are just re-packaging past innovations by converging or merging them to profit products which make people addict to them and allow work to invade into people's leisure time, putting people on call 24-hr.

a report came in this morning about unexpected "positive" effects of the housing bust in the u.s. and the many skilled tradesmen, carpenters and construction workers who were put out of work and had to wait in employment lines for the last 4 years. fast forward to today. since the housing market is trending up due to better economic conditions and a more confident consumer base, the construction and housing industry is picking up again with more new homes being built to meet demand. but there's a problem. there are not enough skilled construction workers.
where have they gone? because skilled, experienced tradesmen, craftsmen, carpenters, roofers, plumbers, electricians are resourceful, hardworking and independent folks at the core, they don't just sit around or wait in the employment lines blaming and whining about everything in sight for their plight. they find alternatives and/or create their own opportunities. many apparently have gone into other fields and areas of enterprise, and started their own businesses. and are successful. one roofer went into the food catering business because of his other passion and never look back. i can cite several examples but will stop for now.

But these 2 examples just proved that kind of inequality and inequity cannot survive for long. Corporate greed and corruption in the name of "free market" is precisely the cause for American poverty. 70% of Americans have never travelled out of their country and 80% have less than $10k net worth... tell me that is the model to adopt!?

You have your impressions of the USA and I have mine. I worked in California for a number of years. It's a cruel society. You can be a star one day and scum the next. However, society won't stop you from making an even more spectacular comeback. The bottom line is that if you have your wits about you, you can thrive in the US. If you trip and fall, you could be in deep shit. That's the way it should be. It's an environment that spurs innovation and hard work. I've seen it in action with my own eyes.

Americans by and large admire wealth and aspire to it. More than that, they are willing to work hard for it. Nobody decries Steve Jobs billions or Madonna's mansions. However, when the rich use their wealth to rig the system to their benefit, they realize society wil be weakened and something should be done. Not all of them though, hence the furious divisions in their society.
