I have to wonder about those struggling seniors who still support the PAP, can they think straight?
When one gets older they get set in their thinking. Some of these seniors may think that LKY is still in charge

Not all senior citizens are struggling singkies. I have friends who have sponsored their parents to live in Canada & Australia. Once their parents satisfy the residency requirements they can become citizens & get out their CPF out. Also know some who still own homes in Spore but spend most of their time in Australia, Bali & Malaysia

I am fortunate that I have $ & can still think straight. With money you have more options open. One only needs $50 thousand to get a retirement visa in places like Thailand & Indonesia. Even Australia welcomes retirees who have $.

One of my older friends tell me, that, many of the oldies still 'whorship the god kuan yew"....& believe in "38"..that is why, 'lumber one son", is so adamant in turning "38" into shrine, maybe to turn into the one we had to visit when I went to Taipei in the early 1970's....the home of CKT..which was turned into a "must visit" when you visit Taipei, ROC.

At 63...best, live out the years enjoying life, after slaving away for decades..unlock their hard earned money in CPF & go, see the world...give up Singapore citizen...take the money & run...even you have to spend, penniless & lying in a gutter in a god forsaken place, dying somewhere in the world..rather you had, enjoyed the world...that to die, in place called "hell" as in Singapore. This now had became a "heaven" only to those from the 3rd world countries..

At 63..go...see the world...don't rot here, & "count on me" at the Singapore mortuary...

I don't understand why these two old farts over 60 years old want to get married. What would be the purpose of that? Cannot be to apply for flat, i am sure each of them have their own. What about their adult kids, how do they feel about their parents getting married at such an old age. What if they lose their inheritance to the new mummy or daddy? What are the repercussions for the CPF beneficiaries? They should just co habitate. What's wrog with shacking up? They only have 10-15 good years left between them. After that, the illness and old age will kick in and then death by 80 or earlier. who will be responsible for the medical bills of the other? Better to keep everything separate by not getting married. After all, if you getting the milk for free, why buy the cow?

Other than that, you have indeed made a fabulous point about money.

It is true about money, but add connections plus you have medical facilities at ones disposal & medical help at one , 'beck & call'. One, can also scour the whole world for the best specialist in cancer treatment from every corner of the globe, not to mention, the best TCM in China. Only the lesser mortal, who, only by the odds of 1,000,000 : 1 with the "same" medical treatment at Class "C", can survive the same cancer.

Money, power & connection....can prolong your life.
