The pedestrian is extremely lucky to be hit by a cyclist. If a car had beaten the red light he'd be dead. This shows just how much safer bicycles are compared to cars.

The cyclists did not obey the traffic lights. Even though the pedestrian has right of way, he should have kept a proper lookout before stepping onto the pedestrian crossing.

Just this year alone, I encountered 3 pedestrians who blindly stepped off the pavement onto the road in front of my car. On 2 occasions, I was driving slowly in broad daylight along narrow lanes, so I had time to apply the brakes. Yesterday, a foreign maid was engrossed on her mobile phone, and took 1 foot onto the road from the divider, but I honked immediately, causing her to look up and step back straightaway.

A year's jail maxf for blatantly mowing down 2 people does not sound like ACCOUNTABILITY to me. He should be charged for murder. Had he been riding a bicycle those poor souls would still be alive and well today. This is why cycling should be made the primary mode of transport while driving should be a privilege for the few that have passed stringent testing rather than issuing a license to all and sundry.
