I just smuggled in 3 packets of Bak Kwa from Jiuhu. Cheap and good. They sell outside a kopitiam. Also pineapple tarts, love letters and an assortment of cookies.

Yeah, it's crazy, right? Even with prices going up, people are still out there spending.

Singaporeans are indeed very gullible, stupid, unhealthy people all trying to kill themselves with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke and cancer....

Bak kwa is considered unhealthy due to its high fat, sodium, and sugar content, primarily because it's a processed meat that is often grilled over charcoal, which can potentially create carcinogenic compounds, making excessive consumption a concern for health; moderation is key when eating bak kwa.

Key points about bak kwa and its health implications:
  • High in fat and calories:
A single slice of bak kwa packs a significant amount of fat and calories, contributing to weight gain if consumed in large quantities.

  • Processed meat concerns:
As a processed meat, bak kwa is linked to an increased risk of colorectal cancer, according to the World Health Organization.

  • Charcoal grilling issue:
The traditional grilling method using charcoal can create potentially carcinogenic compounds that settle on the meat surface.

  • Sodium content:
Bak kwa often has a high sodium content, which can be problematic for people with high blood pressure.

  • Sugar addition:
Many bak kwa varieties contain added sugar, further contributing to its unhealthy profile.

Bee Cheng Hiang and Fragrance shops nearby are super jealous. If only they could accuse Lim Chee Guan of using 'unsafe' Malaysian pork. :sneaky:
