Back in the days when Singapore was newly independent, with 1.5 million mouths to feed, industrialization was one of the ways to create employment with meaningful jobs, but most of our forefathers & mothers had only cottage skills - baking, cleaning, tailoring, seamstress, etc. However, our founding fathers did not feared, & they managed to TEACH them hi-tech skills of that era, rocket science back then - electronics, semi-conductors, etc & through such efforts, created gainful employment for all, international investments & along with our geo-location, became a leading exporter of electronics in Asia.
Point is - from nothing, one become somebody, as our forefathers had proven. With that early 70s backdrop, Singapore SCALED heights that other nations can only watch with envy. We today had went far beyond those days, thru education & even skill upgrading programs/infrastructure today, to be prepared for even more changes & challenges as humankind progresses & evolve.
Thus, international firms need not fear that our talents are unable to fill jobs. With the education background & foundations at all levels-from academia to technical, ANYONE can be taught, even job specific rocket science as our forefathers had proven, & with social media connectiveness, in far less time than needed than any other country, along with its many other benefits to investors for success & ROI.
Furthermore, it is far wiser to hire local talents, which most Singaporeans are, as they are the descendants of courageous forefathers whom knew failure is not an option, driven into their genes, & thus our progress & evolution. We are who & what we are that made Singapore into what it is today, for the sake of ourselves, our loved ones, their future & society. To import foreign talents, they are an unknown. They may be highly qualified & successful, but in the end, they do not have the genes that we Singaporeans have. Capitalism & the free market is highly volatile, & changes are the only constant. Are foreign talents as adaptable as we Singaporeans are?
For sure Singapore do need foreign investors & foreign talents, to lead, teach & guide. However there cannot be an imbalance that leads to Singaporeans being denied of opportunities that our founding & forefathers created for us, thru so much, so much efforts & sacrifices that made Singapore to what it is today, for us, foreigners & all Humankind. Should such an imbalance occurs, then Singapore will no longer be Singapore as investors knew - the system of governance will change, so too our entire society as well as any investments benefits once had, as the ones-we as a society whom made Singapore great will no longer be able to exist in Singapore...
