[Sg] - Employer called police because maid drank a glass of baby milk without permission

Pardon me for the errors and typos in my earlier post.
Although we are far from being financial wealthy, my spouse from a different racial and cultural background, is more compassionate and generous than me. She as a coin purse full of one dollar and two dollar coins (we called them loonies and toonies) in her purse, and she gives them to the street musicians, apparently homeless, etc. In Dec, I usually hand them a $5 or $10 bill.
My spouse said that it is not what we have. She indicated that an elderly who does not have much, but puts a $5 bill in the church basket, is more generous than those millionaires who puts in $10 or $20, when they can easily slip a $100 bill or cheque in the weekly church envelope.
Unfortunately, I write only a $100 or $200 cheque.
Being generous to the truly needy is a character trait of good and kind people. Your spouse is one of them, she is a blessing to you and your family. In my life, I know a few of them too. There's this saying which goes like, let your conscience be your guide. I find it meaningful and have adopted it throughout my life. If I see someone in need and if I don't help when I know I can, I will feel like shit later. So I try to help, so I won't feel bad later.

Your spouse has quoted Mark 12:41 about the poor widow's offering. And I agree. Although I don't see the bible as a holy book, it's a good collection of moral teachings. The rest of it are fairy tales, I'm afraid.

Your $100 or $200 cheque is plenty and generous.

You are a kind gentleman.
In my life, numerous individuals have helped me, whether as a new immigrant, or when I was unemployed during the recession in the early 1990s (when no one seemed to return my calls and the silence of the phones are deafening), and various individuals put in a kind word for me, referred files to me since I became self employed.
Whether or not we believe in God, or whatever religion, there are various principles or "conscience" that should guide us. There is always room for us to improve.
Although it appears that the Singapore government is secular, it would serve Singapore and Singaporeans well and better, if the governing party and the politicians be more forgiving, mirr compassionate, and practised principles of "conscience" to take better care (and assist) of the financially needy senior citizens, physically and medically disabled.
With respect, I believe that Singapore government's attitude and financial assistance towards those vulnerable individuals, do not reflect any of the principles of any major religion, or its huge financial reserves.
Good health and good luck.
Wish you, and all of you who participate at this forum, many happy, healthy, Blessed years.

You were fortunate to have had help during your time of need, and I am glad you made it through those tough times. As for myself, I can't recall having folks helped me. Was and still am not so lucky. But I have helped quite a few, either financially, done work for free, or physical labour. Perhaps I give others the impression that I am self sufficient, can get what I need through my own efforts. Also, I am very reluctant to ask for help. My stupid pride maybe?

Yes, kindness, compassion, being gracious transcends any religion. They are basic human traits that ought to define us and set us apart from animals, Yet these attributes are generally wanting in most of us, as far as I can deduce.

Everyone knows the SG government runs the country like a business. Power, money and authority are their objectives. Conscience is an afterthought, or does not even feature in their scheme of things. Just look at the way they hantam their political opponents, in order to secure their monopoly over every aspect of sinkie life. Yes they do dish our financial aid, but these are often mere pittance. We are not a gracious society, and it's driven from the top down. Good health, peace and joy to you and your family.
