PM Lee diagnosed with prostate cancer

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced in a media release on Sunday (Feb 15).

Mr Lee will undergo surgery to remove his prostate gland on Monday. The robot-assisted keyhole prostatectomy will be carried out by Prof Christopher Cheng, the lead urologist at the Singapore General Hospital.

The Prime Minister had decided on the surgical treatment option on the advice of a panel of doctors led by Prof Cheng. This was after an MRI on Mr Lee's prostate, performed in January, showed suspicious lesions, and a subsequent biopsy found that one out of 38 samples contained cancer cells.

Mr Lee is expected to recover fully, the PMO said. It cited data from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre that shows patients with a similar medical profile and treatment have a cancer-specific survival rate of 99 per cent at 15 years.

The Prime Minister will be on medical leave for one week, during which Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will be Acting Prime Minister.

Mr Lee was previously diagnosed with lymphoma in 1992 and the cancer went into remission after successful chemotherapy.

And the doctor may be rewarded with a tan sri title in Malaysia plus a chance to practice.

I am no doctor... but I read somewhere that your tonsils, appendix and prostrate gland all have important functions in your body. Probably something to do with the immune system. It is not a good idea to surgically remove them.

Who do u think will be the next PM?

With the latest setback to his health, it looks like the LHL PMship is drawing to a close. It's probably the end of the Lee dynasty as well since there r no more Lee bloodline to take over. Are the '4G' generals ie Chan Chun Seng or Tan Juan Jin ready? Or will there be an interim PM with the current DPMs aka Ng Eng Hen or Tharman taking over first? We all wait with bated breath!

He will have to lung along a urine bag for awhile and will need to use catheter along with it and the infection risk on him would be HIGH.

These are the facts that no media will tell. But once you cannot urinate on your own, the quality of one life surely takes a deep dive NO MATTER HOW RICH OR POWERFUL, ONE THINKS HE IS.
