SEX for 'A' grade: Law prof arrested

This guy gone case lah.

Case so clear cut still argue. No fucking sense of shame, just like some shameless forumers here. :D

NUS noted that the prosecution did not allege that grades were tampered with, despite the gravity of Tey's offences.

NUS said that grades were not tampered with ...so, why is Teh guilty? I thought it was sex for higher grades but now NUS said no grades were tampered with!

Kangaroo judge based his decision on ?????

It is clear only in the PAP's perspective.

How could they ignore the facts ...
1. The girl was given a statement written by CPIB to sign ...she disagreed and then the CPIB director made changes ...what does this show? The charges were trumped up by the CPIB. Of course, the kangaroo court has already decided that Tey must hang ...so the trial is a wayang.
2. NUS reported Tey ...first time it ever did ...why? Latest statement from NUS state that grades were not tampered with. So, why was Tey convicted since he did not tamper with grades?
3. The whole CPIB interrogation episode showed how incompetent that department is ...yet the kangaroo judge chose to ignore all that.

I am judging the merit of the case and it does not pass the smell test. It is another establishment versus some guy who upset the former. And the establishment always win.

C'mon, the case so clear cut. On the presumption of corruption act, he is convicted, not on whether he actually tempered with the grade or not. That is NOT important in the act.

Ng Ah Gay's case is very different. He has no influence on the tender decision, so the presumption of corruption does not apply.

And tell me, what great fuck did this Prof Tey did that establishment wants him culled?

This is a corrupt Prof who does not pay for dinner, air-fare and take gifts and SEX from a student when he is drawing $225,000 in salary.

What defence does he has? NOTHING!!

Thank you for politicizing this thread.

The judge said favouring Ms Ko need not be extreme. It could just mean bumping her grades up slightly from a "B+" to "A-".
In court, two professors were asked of their view of Ms Ko's directed research paper. One said he would give her a "B+" while the other said he would give either an "A-" or an "A". Tey had awarded Ms Ko an "A".
The judge stressed that whether Tey had shown favour to Ms Ko or not was not vital. What was important was that he could influence her grades, and showed her he could, in order to obtain the gifts.

The views of the professors are totally ignored which shows that Tey did NOT tamper with the grades. Tey award an A grade which another professor would have given that. The prosecution witness had also claimed that she didn't need the grades.
What kind of logic is that for the judge to conclude that just Tey obtain the 'gifts' because he scared Ms Ko into doing so. How could he when Ko didn't need the grades?

The judge's attack on Tey character is based on bias ...why did he not make any comment about the tactics and actions of the CPIB officers? Any idiot can see that the CPIB officer made a case from thin air.

When the PAP is tossed out in the next election, this judge must be kicked out as it is obvious that he is a PAPpy.

Dun talk cock lah. PAPpy this, PAPpy that. Where is your evidence that Prof Tey is anti-PAPpy?

Are you able to read? If you do, please read my post again before you shoot from the hip.

I sure know how to read. The problem is your comprehensive ability is appalling. And you are trying to politicize a case when there is none.

Tell me where is the corruption? No grades inflated. She loves him, he enjoys the sex. Two consenting adults. What's the big deal? Bosses sleep with their employees all the time ...is that corruption? And employees get promoted because of that.

Please go take a cold shower. I'm not about to waste more time on your thumping the fist and debating criminal laws with you.

Go read the Penal Code and if you still do not understand it, consult a good lawyer. Focus on the part which says "Prevention of Corruption Act".

SINGAPORE: The judge presiding over the sex-for-grades case has adjourned the sentencing of former law professor Tey Tsun Hang.

Chief District Judge Tan Siong Thye said he needed to go through submissions by the prosecution and the defence "very thoroughly."

The sentencing has been adjourned to June 3.

The prosecution pushed for a jail term of six to eight weeks for each charge, with at least two of the sentences to be run consecutively. This means a minimum sentence of 12 to 16 weeks' imprisonment in total, for all six charges.

The prosecution then sought to explain the proposed sentence by highlighting several aggravating factors.

These included premeditation on Tey's part, his behaviour in trial and damage to the university's reputation.

Describing Tey's offences as serious, the prosecution said that a fine in this case would be "unjustifiable" and that Tey needed "an opportunity to reflect".

Deputy Public Prosecutor Andre Jumabhoy added that Tey's conduct was inexcusable, saying that extracting gifts and obtaining sexual intercourse from a student was a criminal offence.

DPP Jumabhoy also accused Tey of disrupting the trial process by "feigning illness" and showing "not one iota of remorse."

The court also heard from the prosecution that Tey was "prepared to lie repeatedly" by asserting others had given him bribes.

Speaking to the media, Tey said he has instructed his lawyers to prepare the papers for appeal.

He added that he will be filing the appeal after sentencing.

Tey also said that he was "mentally prepared" for the sentencing, which was expected to take place on Wednesday.

The 42-year-old was found guilty of all six counts of corruption on Tuesday.

The National University of Singapore terminated his employment on Tuesday following the verdict.

Tey was charged for having corruptly obtained gratification in the form of gifts and sex from his former student Darinne Ko Wen Hui, in return for giving her better grades between May and July 2010.

Tey 'depraved' and had 'ulterior motive'

My Paper

He was untruthful, two-faced, and his conduct was depraved.

That was how Chief District Judge Tan Siong Thye described National University of Singapore (NUS) law professor Tey Tsun Hang, 42, before convicting him on six counts of corruption.

In a strongly-worded judgment which took 31/2 hours to deliver, the judge said that there was "overwhelming evidence" that Tey had taken undue advantage of his former student, Ms Darrine Ko, 23.

Tey had been charged last July with six counts of corruptly obtaining gifts and sex from Ms Ko in exchange for better grades.

In the judgment spanning more than 100 pages, the judge noted that Tey had illustrious achievements that overwhelmed Ms Ko, who was "impressionable".

He had also sought her out, initiating their meals and the sexual intercourse between them, said Judge Tan.

"It is a no-brainer that there was an obvious imbalance of power in favour of the accused. The accused had abused his position and power," the judge said.

He also questioned if the pair were truly in a "mutually-loving relationship".

This is because Tey made no mention of being in a relationship in his statements to Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau officers, he said.

Tey should leave sinkapore and then write books (ebooks so that I can afford to buy) on sinkapore and the justice system. He can make himself famous as another critic of the PAP.

A society that is not governed by law, not by the whims and fancies of the elites, is what I seek. Tey was convicted by a court that would have failed in a true democracy.

As a victim of arbitrary justice, he has the right to give it back many folds.
