RESORTS WORLD AT SENTOSA ON IR JOBS
Singaporeans first
I THANK Mr Tan Shao Ken for his letter on Thursday, 'IR jobs: Are Singaporeans being given priority?'
We understand Mr Tan's concerns and assure Singaporeans that Resorts World at Sentosa is and always will be committed to hiring Singaporeans first. We envisage that the bulk of our 10,000 job openings will be filled by Singaporeans.
Since we were awarded the integrated resort (IR) in December 2006, we have been working very closely with local universities, polytechnics as well as government agencies such as the Singapore Tourism Board, Workforce Development Agency (WDA), community development councils, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) to draw alliances for manpower planning, hiring and training of Singaporean mature workers, back-to-work mothers, retrenched professionals, managers, executives and technicians, and workers, as well as fresh school leavers.
Resorts World at Sentosa has been working closely with government agencies to organise many job fairs catering to Singaporeans.
The fairs include the North West Community Development Council job fair in February; the WDA Pavilion during Career 2009 and Education 2009 last month; Mindef in hiring ORD and full-time national servicemen and retiring warrant officers and specialists last month; and the Young NTUC Opportunity Fair this month.
We have touched base with overseas Singaporeans through Contact Singapore to explore job opportunities and to attract experienced Singaporean professionals back to work here.
We have hired many Singaporeans through these partnership efforts with the Government, and the media has profiled several of our new Singaporean colleagues who were retrenched or are new graduates.
Currently, Resorts World at Sentosa has more than 500 staff on its payroll, 80 per cent of whom are Singaporeans.
The non-Singaporeans were hired for their specialist skill sets, such as gaming and international theme park operations.
When Resorts World at Sentosa opens early next year, it will be a world-class destination that will redefine tourism offerings in Singapore.
Thus, it is our every intention to have as many Singaporeans join us in making this a destination that Singaporeans will be truly proud of.
