Woody says fire incident involving MP should never have happened

</cite>SINGAPORE: Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has said the incident in which Yio Chu Kang Member of Parliament Seng Han Thong was set on fire should never have happened.

</noscript>Speaking to reporters at a community event in Marine Parade on Sunday, Mr Goh also said life should go on as normal for MPs. "We would hate it if we’ve got to be looking behind our back all the time as we give out ang baos and visit the market, which I’m going to do. This is one of those rare instances which has happened to an MP and I do hope it’ll never happen again for whatever reasons," said Mr Goh. Mr Seng suffered 15 per cent burns to his upper body after he was set on fire at a Yio Chu Kang constituency event on 11 January. He has undergone skin graft operation to treat the burns and is recovering at the Singapore General Hospital. Mr Seng is now breathing on his own, without the help of a respirator. Mr Goh said that when he visited Mr Seng in hospital, he opened his eyes and lifted his hands to acknowledge him.
