The scdf seems to be taking this death seriously as compared to deaths in SAF. Could it be scdf is the 2nd grade civil service as compared to SAF n not many scholars there? Everyone talks about generals bring ministers...but nothing from scdf. N SAF death are not treated seriously bcos they protect the scholar general. Scdf by charging these buggers have nothing to loose because no white horse. So charge a couple of junior officers is no Biggie. Jobs for the boys again

This death has nothing to do with training. Training deaths are OK. Ragging deaths are not.

A death is a death. The SAF deaths were due to the sadistic nature n incompetence of the SAF officers. So the line is thin with regards to both cases. These clowns will be fragged when Singkieland goes to war.

The SAF deaths were result of commanders pushing their men hard so that they are ready for battle should the need arise.

Deaths occur at boy scout camps too. If there were no training deaths in the military it would mean that life was even easier and more risk free than a holiday resort.

Officers n NCOs are responsible for the lives n wellbeing of their men. If their men die during training they are fully responsible. Do u know in pommie land armed forces..the men eat first n the officers eat last? In the SAF..the men eat shit n the officers get take aways during training...I doubt the officers even care unless their careers are at stake. Push the men hard so they are trained for battle. That is definitely the Singkieland equivalent of fake news

SINGAPORE: Criminal proceedings may be launched against those found responsible for the drowning of a full-time national serviceman (NSF) from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

"The State Coroner may call for an inquiry into the death. The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) is also reviewing the case with a view to criminal proceedings," said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a media release on Wednesday (May 16).

MHA added that the two SCDF regulars who were arrested over the incident will be interdicted from service on half-pay, pending the outcome of police investigations.

Four other officers who are being investigated will have their promotions withheld in the meantime. They were supposed to be promoted on Jun 1.

I think that far too much effort is being placed on safety and not enough on training realism. This is because of the political pressure on the government given the fact that NS is compulsory and parents are forced to surrender their sons to the SAF at the prime of their lives.

While zero training deaths may alleviate the political cost that NS it does nothing for the defense of Singapore in the long term as it will result in a poorly trained and unfit army totally lacking in fighting ability should the need arise.

Singaporeans need to collectively accept the fact that a certain number of training deaths is inevitable. I suggest a figure of 1% which means not more than 1 death per 100 enlistees.
