That's bs. Here's why. Elections Department designate one ballot box and that is the box which will have the majority of PAP votes. That box is then used to for the sample count.

They have not spoken to the press even when approached.
They are waiting till they have results for all the constituencies that they contest to be announced before they speak to the press.
If the results for a big GRC like Holland Bt Timah has been announced at around midnight when it was around 2 am in the last election, something is fishy.
Can you imagine that the results of HBT GRC is known earlier and the result of Bukit Batok SMC is still not known as of now?

The best we could find is that the Returning Officer decided that the Sample Vote is predictive of the final result. 100 vote can tell you how 150,000 votes will behave?
And 100 percent accuracy! You believe that? Total BS!!!!!
Statistically, the population size (150k in your example) doesn't really affect the confidence interval that much. The main thing that affects confidence interval (aka margin of error) is the confidence level (almost everyone uses 95%) and the sample size (100 * number of polling stations). Most of the time, statisticians will just assume an infinitely large population, and this works well. If the population is small (say less than 100* number of samples), then the confidence interval will start decreasing very slightly. Also, if the actual result is far away from 50%, then the confidence interval starts reducing slightly too, but this is very small and since we often worry more about results near 50%, we mostly just assume 50%.

You will find that at 600 samples, the confidence interval is 4% for an infinite population. There is still a small chance (5%) of the actual result falling outside of the sampled results. Sampling, if done properly (i.e. truely random), has always been a very powerful predictive tool. It should be no surprise that just about all the final results fall within the confidence intervals of the sampled results.

since the confidence level falls within 5 percent... why do the sampling vote count? 0.1% or 0.01% win is still a win! and 5% margin of error is huge! So, my question is, why not just show the TRUE RESULT, but to have a sampling vote count of only 100??? why not a sampling vote count of 1000 or in the above case, 600 samples to make the level of confidence higher?
My point is, don't do the sampling vote count, just COUNT THE VOTES, and release the result.
