It appears that I cannot comment on his page. Thus, I have to write this post on my own wall. I hope that somehow this post will appear on his feed.
My open letter to Leslie Ang.
Dear Leslie, I didn't have to endure any pain nor spend much time to decide to write this letter to you. Note that I am writing to you as a Singaporean; and as a former soldier who serve in the SAF Commandos
Know this Leslie - when I jump off a plane in a parachute, I did so because I made a conscious decision to do it, and thus the fate of my life lies IN MY OWN HANDS, not anyone else. In fact, the quality of my chute is the least of my worries, because any trained paratrooper will tell you that there is so many other factors that could put your life in jeopardy.
I am curious as to why that 'fellow brother-in-arm' did not tell you that the riggers have to jump with the parachutes that they have pack for us. Most of us, including you, risked only the sack from our bosses if we fail to do our job properly. These riggers, they literally put their lives on the line to tell us they have done their job properly. Would you do that Leslie? If any, I only have the utmost respect and admiration for this people.
Also, did that 'brother-in-arm' inform you the number of parachuting incidents that had occurred due to a malfunction in the parachute. Answer: NONE. So as former paratrooper who has no qualms about jumping off a plane with a parachute and with MY FELLOW BROTHERS-IN-ARMS, this I'll say to you, it does not bother me who packed my chute. *What matters is who I am jumping for.
You seem fairly concerned with information about our military capabilities being leaked to foreigners, and yet mention in your post about our elite military units, for someone who has attended university, that in my opinion, is not an educated move. And above all these, did you attempt to clarify this privately with Mindef before you decide to pen this post openly?
Our society (Singapore) thrives on a extremely delicate balance and mixture of Singaporeans and foreigners. While I am not one who can decide how much we should outsource our jobs to the foreigners, what I am very sure is such xenophobic posts from you will only upset the balance and create more unnecessary ill-feelings towards foreigners.
Just like you Leslie, I swore to defend my country against enemies, foreign and domestic. So I urge to you to tread carefully; for those who spread unnecessary statements to create animosity under the name of upholding sovereignty and justice for this country are truly our enemies.
