The Reform Party has stepped up on its ground work lately with a walkabout to Hong Kah GRC on 9 April 2010, coming less than a week after its joint walkabout with the Singapore Democratic Alliance at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC last Sunday.
According to information posted on the party website, the party will be continuing from the blocks at Choa Chu Kang Street 51 which was last covered three weeks ago.
Contrary to PAP Minister Lim Hwee Hwa’s assertion that the opposition is working the ground now only ahead of the next general election, the Reform Party has been conducting regular walkabouts since its founding in 2008.
“I suppose they (opposition) are preparing for the General Election. And in a way trying to work the ground so that they can at the General Election truly say that they’ve been working the ground unlike the rest of us who have been working the ground.” she was quoted as saying in the Straits Times on 4 April 2010.
Reform Party’s Secretary-General Kenneth Jeyaretnam graduated with a double-honors in economics from the prestigious Cambridge University and worked as a hedge fund manager in London for several years before returning to Singapore.
The fledging Reform Party has seen an increase in membership lately and is boosted by the entry of some high-fliers such as former SAF scholar Tony Tan and a former senior civil servant in the Ministry of Finance Hazel Poa.
With public sentiments against the PAP at an all-time high, the opposition may be able to make significant gains in the next general election if it is able to field a team of credible candidates.
