A RESIDENT of Tan Tong Meng Tower in Thomson Road was fined $1,200 on Monday for flinging two files at a security guard in June last year. Lim Mary Josephine, 58, had vented her anger at Mr Munisamy Naidu for not opening the sliding door of the condominium for her.

She was however acquitted of injuring the security guard, 59, by throwing a half-filled 1.5 litre plastic bottle at him at about the same time, as there was no evidence that he had been hurt.

Mr Naidu had filed a magistrate's complaint against Lim and during the five-day trial last month, a district court heard that the condominium management had installed a card access system for its residents.

He had opened the sliding door for several visitors as they had no access cards but not for Lim, who was a resident. The director of a real estate firm then shouted at the guard before flinging the two files at him. She also admitted throwing the bottle but denied it hit him.

In her submissions, Lim, who did not hire a lawyer, said that 'the frustration over the intimidation, humiliation and provocation' by the guard must have got the better of her. She said she had no intention of hurting Mr Naidu and thatshe only wanted to gain entry into her own home.

The guard, employed by Majesty Security Services, testified the bottle hit his waist but he did not consult a doctor. His lawyer Rakesh Vasu had asked district judge Ronald Gwee to impose a high fine as Lim had shown no remorse at her actions and had instead tried to justify her violence on the guard.

She could have been fined up to $2,000 on each of the two charges.
