From wanbao, rough translation:
RWS started only 5 days and already large numbers of foreign workers are flooding the casino, enjoying the free entry and free drinks, causing some locals to be unhappy.
Shinmin newspaper kept receiving complaints from readers, that RWS since opening has been flooded with FWs. They can use their passports or work passes to gain free entry into the casino. However, after entering, most just hang around to see and not gamble and also drink free drinks, causing some Singaporeans to be unhappy.
An enterprise group chairman Dr Ong happily went to the casino on 2nd day with 10 over friends. However, after seeing to many people inside, they left less than 2 hours later.
Dr Ong during the interviewed said, "Singapore first casino just started and can attract so many customers, it's a good thing. However, many FWs entered the casino and hang around for too long, and they only sightsee and enjoy the free facilities like toilets and free drinks, causing less opportunities for genuine gamblers to bet.
He added,"Casino provides free drinks but one has to take it himself. However, the drink area is sqeezed with many FWs, making it difficult to get in. gamblers do not wish to wait too long for the drinks so only have to continue to gamble without drinks"
Dr Ong's friend (an investment manager) said that he got no eyes to see, and left less than 1 hour inside.
Another reader Mr Wong (55yr, businessman) also said that many FWs anyhow sleep on the floors of the casino. Once awake, they will go to the gambling table to take a look. One table only have 6 or 7 people betting but there are at least tens of people looking. Many are FWs. Those who want to bet can't even get near the table.
Many local gamblers are asking the authorities to take note of this situation. They want the Govt to also ask the FWs to pay the entrance levy, like the rest of Singaporeans and PRs.
Dr Ong said, "FWs of course have the rights to enter the casino. However, staying inside casino for long period of time without gambling but just to enjoy free use of casino resources, this is unfair to those genuine customers"
Whether to also charge FWs for entrance levy, the authority spokesman replied this morning, that the entrance fee is meant for the protection of Singapore citizens and PRs.
