Reason for GRC= minority representation, or just fixing the opposition???!!!
(give PAP cronies a risk free career.)
One can easily see from the following chart, the hyper inflation in GRC size without any intended improvement in minority racial parliamentary representation (1988 GE: 42 SMC seats, 39 GRC seats). PAP found that Sinkies trusted PAP overwhelmingly, and so decided to capitalise on this by increasing the seats per GRC, this time with the sole purpose of placing obstacles before independents/ non-behemoth parties (reduction in SMC seats). Incepted in 1988, I believe GRCs was LKY's idea, but woody Goh immorally expanded it, this time to give his chosen puppet parliamentarians (PAP candidates) "assurance of a good chance of winning at least their first election"

(PS: I say puppet because party candidates have to vote and speak according yo their respective political whips)

Impressed with the overwhelming electoral support despite the obvious perversion of true electoral justice, PM Lee then went one step further, admitting to our long felt suspicion that "fixing the opposition" is what he is really trained to do. To bad, it now seems that the average Sinkaporean is considered "the opposition" (for complaining about everything fr cost of living to emloymeny opportunities etc).

Quickly inflating the number of constituencies per GRC post GE:1988 so goal posts prejudicially and unfairly suite PAP party:

Collecting the dividends: many join PAP party due to its near promise that PAP poitical candidates are "ensured to win at least their first" electoral contest:
'Without some assurance of a good chance of winning at least their first election, many able and successful young Singaporeans may not risk their careers to join politics,' Mr Goh Chok Tong, June 2006 ['GRCs make it easier to find top talent: SM'].

They are either so paranoid of competition, or else arrogant during election rallies, they admit to using dirty tricks fixing the opposite side, for real or suggested, though when read with woody Goh's admission GRCs ensured "assurance of a good chance of winning at least their first election[", one can easily conclude that the subsequent extension of the GRC system of election was performed to prejudicially suite ruling political party dynastic ambitions.

Politics in Sinkapore isn't whiter than white as mainstream media has always been too eager to declare.
Please return Sinkaporean to a fully single seat system of elections. The best losing minority candidates, as with the current minority opposition will be offered NCMP seats (half of quota shortfall), whilst the other half of quota shortfall will be NMP seats nominated by minority societies and clubs: e.g. MUIS, Singapore Indian Federation (I'm guessing the name) etc.

Or just continue to accept their stupid proposals and grand explanations...
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."
