Dear All,

U use Tax payers money to run public transport to serve the citizens:mad:, and yet you use the tax payers money to generate profit, and say that this is the profit for the company ?? What kind of logic is this ??
U are suppose to break even for the public transport to serve the nation, and not profit from it ?? UNDERSTAND ?

... Mr Lim explained: "This is because the public transport fare is not directly linked to the oil prices. We link it to national factors, like the inflation level in Singapore, and the wage level in the whole of Singapore."
...

ya ... linked 2 national factors ... like minister salary, gst ...

When they want to increase the price, they cited oil price as the main component of the raising cost, but when as to reduce price, oil becomes a secondary factor..politicians...

This called one politician with two faces. To which it should face depends on target: intelligent or unintelligent one. In this case, I assumed he treated Macpherson residents as people with low IQ.

Con News Asia: Raymond lim visited residents who requested for reduction in transport fares due to plunging oil price, or at least return some profit earned by operators to passenger by not increasing the fares.

However Raymond Lim treated residents like moron and said the previous fare hikes have nothing to do with oil. It has to do with quality and efficiency of transport services.

Did I not hear wrongly that every time when there are Transport fares increase, that Conman Lim will said due to HIIGH OPERATIONS COSTS. So oil price is not part of operation costs?

We Singaporean are cheated again!

Its not just this which galls me; instead it was his implied threat that if the government allows more subsidies for the people in terms of transport, then GST will have to be increased to 8.5%.

Even the Australian federal and state government don't resort to such threats. If they did, they would get slaughtered. I'm willing as always to call the bluff of Mr. Raymond Lim.

Agreed. I believe the compensation packages for all the senior management should form a large bulk of the human resources related expenses. Imagine if the CEO and directors receive just a million less in bonuses or pay in total, and the average pay of a bus driver is $3000, the amount saved can support 27 drivers for a year. Or if the total number of bus drivers is 500, the monthly extra these drivers can earn is $166. The distribution of the pool of money should be fairer. I am not saying that the top echelon shan't be paid well but it should be a reasonable amount. Never forget wat drives Wall Streets to the edge...high compensation for the so-called top financial gurus.

Increased fares are due to increased cost in manpower, especially top execs salaries in the transport companies. Of course oil prices has an impact. The MRT has to pay for higher electricity to run the trains and the bus for higher priced fuel. But once they increase the fares they are not ready to bring it down.

Remember boss of NTUC comfort received S$1.4M bonus and multi million MRT head.

RL thinks we are fools, but he is the real fool who can't fool us.

Perhaps there is something that Mr Lim is aware of that the public is not, such as the Buses and SMRT Trains are running on water instead of oil. Hence fare hikes has got nothing to do with oil.

Gathering from his speech and all other ministers, we have to believe that their salaries have nothing to do with performance but purely based on country GDP and what top private sector fetched. Analogy of what he said Fare cost not linked to oil price but economy.
