Re: [Racism?] Olympic gold medallist say blacks will dominate sprinting due to slave
hate to agree with you, but yes. there's anecdoctal and eye witness evidence (mine and friends) which suggest that blacks just can't cut it in swimming.
Really? Here are some examples of athletes reaching the heights of greatness in sports generally considered outside their dominant racial domains:
Liu Xiang was the first man - black, white, yellow or brown - to go under 12.9s in the 110m hurdles, and recently equalled the current world record of 12.87s, a time which would have been ratified if not for a tailwind that day.
Anthony Nesty, of black Surinamese descent, shocked the world by becoming the first black Olympic swimming gold medallist in Seoul 1988 when he won the 100m butterfly final, beating the great Matt Biondi, and remained unbeaten in the event for 3 years.
Sun Yang broke the oldest world record in swimming at the 2011 World Championships, Grant Hackett's 1,500m freestyle record by clocking 14:34.14. He currently holds the year's world's best time in the 400m and 800m freestyle, and is the odds-on favourite to win the 1500m event in London, while battling it out with the great Korean Park Tae Hwan for the 400m gold.
Tiger Woods, on course to become the greatest golfer of all time, having smashed all records save for Jack Niklaus's 18 Majors, in a sport white commentators once said blacks could never excel in. (Just as they also used to say that blacks don't make good batsmen in baseball, a myth long smashed by the likes of Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sousa and the great Japanese of Chinese descent Sadaharu Oh.)
