"Chinese" is not a race it is an ethnicity. Same goes for "Malay", "Indian" etc.

The Singaporean convention is to follow the father. So the answer to your question is 'Indian'.

Race is of course an important part of the social sphere in Singapore....even when you want to sell your HDB, it must be to a certain race.

Consistency is the operative word. If the state chooses to define race in a particular way for policy making and demographic purposes, then it has to abide by it in all situations. Then again, when was the PAP known for its integrity?
