TV host refutes cabby's 'taxi rage' allegations

SINGAPORE - Television host Quan Yifeng (picture), who is embroiled in a "taxi rage" incident, has undergone a medical check-up on the advice of her lawyer, Mr Subhas Anandan.
Quan, 36, who was abroad, returned to Singapore yesterday morning.
When asked about her injuries, Quan, speaking to MediaCorp from the hospital while waiting to see a doctor, said: "I don't know. I have to wait for the doctor's report."
Quan, the zany host of Channel 8's New City Beat every Friday at 8.30pm, was filming in Mauritius, when reports of her altercation on Saturday with the cabby surfaced. She was due back on Friday but said a communication breakdown and the time difference could have led to the confusion over the timing of her return.
Taxi operator ComfortDelGro is supporting the taxi driver.
MediaCorp said in a statement that it would not comment on the case as it is under police investigation.
Taxi operators Smart Cab and Prime Taxi say they advise their drivers to be patient with customers to minimise conflict.
Mr Lim Chong Boo, managing director of Premier Taxis, said: "We have a walkie-talkie system - all a driver has to do is press a distress button and help will be sent."
A ComfortDelGro spokeswoman said its taxi drivers have also been told not to retaliate. The company's taxis also have a distress button.
Quan reportedly got into an argument with the cabby, known only as Mr Chan, after he allegedly refused to help her load her luggage into the boot.
She had boarded the taxi at a Nallur Road condominium and was going to the airport to catch a flight to Mauritius.
Mr Chan claimed that Quan had hit him, locked herself in the taxi, ripped out its meter and poured water on his belongings. He also alleged that Quan took the keys to his taxi and left in another taxi.
Quan has refuted the allegations and claimed that the driver swung the taxi door on her, hitting her on the back and leg.
